Looking for a structural engineer

I'm looking for recommendations of a structural engineer, either a firm or an individual, who can do some wind loading calculations for me. Specifically, I'm looking for a second opinion on the wind speed rating of a mobile stage unit we're looking at buying, I want to ensure that the figures we're being quoted have some basis in fact and have not just been written by the manufacturer's marketing department.

We're based in Scotland but since it will be a paper-based exercise location is unlikely to be an issue. I'm more concerned that we're talking to someone who has experience of temporary demountable structures, and ideally some familiarity with our industry.

Hi,

I do this sort of thing all the time, mostly for the construction industry but also for festivals and events - we have done Beatherder, Y-Not and a couple of truck festivals.

We specialise in designing and checking temporary structures our office number is 0121 355 3622 - ask for James Melia or Roger Tice.

Try David Lee at Clarke Nicholls Marcel. They undertook work at the certain large event this summer in several venues, and specified the steel for my kitchen, and despite their website being geared more to construction, they do know there stuff in the live events world.

CNM in the 'Nam are always my first recommendation. I can't remember whether it was David Lee or someone else but they sorted out several problems, including one for cooldc1, and anyone with the balls to cancel a multi-million pound event, and be proved right to do so, has my vote every time.

They don't push the TDS side of things but believe me they are the tops and have more experience of specialist, large-scale and unusual TDS than anyone. They are more than well experienced in entertainment rigging requirements as well as being reasonable on costs.
