crowhue
Im looking to upgrade my cheapo £200 smoke generator to something better quality and faster (other one is slow to start). How much do I need to spend to get quality?
Smiffy
No idea of price off the top of my head, but in so far as an industry standard, I suspect many would agree that the F100 is a good place to start. Cheers Smiffy Worth noting that the DMX interface for it is usually 3 pin, and also a separate purchase!
operalx
Im looking to upgrade my cheapo £200 smoke generator to something better quality and faster (other one is slow to start). How much do I need to spend to get quality? We use Look Solutions Vipers. There are 1.3 and 2.6kW versions available, depending on how much output you need. They cost around £450 and £700 respectively. They come with onboard DMX as standard and will also work from local control or with a 3 pin remote. They also have great quick change connectors so you can swap fluid types if you have cues requiring different smoke effects (e.g. a quick dispersing smoke and then a heavier fog). Its also light enough to run around a stage with. If you need something with a bit more punch though, we also use MDG Max5000's. They cost into the £000's though, depending on config and also require CO2. I enjoy using both machines. Its worth trying out any contenders before you buy though, not just the aforementioned machines. All the best,J
LXbydesign
I bought one from . . .Thonman. Yes I know - but actually its very good. I cant remember off hand the make etc but it's pretty much the same spec as the old Martin Pro2000 smoke machine. Good build quality and DMX etc. Nice variable output and quick warm-up time. It cost about £340 or so. Works happily with any smoke fluid, but I prefer to use Jem fluid.
