matthew3000 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I've had a query from our set designer who wants to purchase some kick down wheels, allowing the set flat to sit on the floor while in position, then kick the wheel down and wheel it off stage. This is due to the weight of the set flats that are being constructed and the lack of flying facilities at the theatre. I think I have found what he is looking for although they will work out very expensive for multiple pieces of set. http://www.flints.co...gue/castors.pdfTriple E Unijacks on page 2 Does anyone have any other possibilities we could use to achieve the same result or alternatively a cheaper place these can be purchased from. Any ideas? Thanks.
dbuckley Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I've seen the opposite achieved with wooden cams, looks a bit like a very short hocky stick; the setpiece is rolled into place, and then the cams in each corner shoved down so the setpiece sits on the cams. Stable, and virtually cost free.

Stable, and virtually cost free. I've seen this done several times too and it works really well. Alternatively, could you go with sprung wheels - set it so the weight of the flat alone has the wheel still lower than the base of the flat, but then when they're in place, chuck a stage weight or two on it so the spring compresses and the flat sits on the floor.
T*ny Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Triple E's Unijacks can be ordered with a set of studs (UJA5) and additional backplates (UJA6) which means that you can use the same set of jacks on a number of different pieces. They are not shown in the Flint's catalogue but they can order them in for you or just go to Triple E directly.
