JCASTLD Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Do you guys think this is a good deal? Thinking about buying it, just want to see if the bang is worth the buck. Thank you, not necessary to turn this into a variance discussion :) http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g8/FortheInfluence/LaserCharley.jpg
norty303 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 It looks like you get a reasonably good deal, considering the DAC is included (if you need one that it, not so good if you don't, or use a different brand like Pangolin, although I see on their site they offer Moncha or Pangolin FB3 on similar models)Case looks of good quality compared to lots of competitors, and the modules are of the 'right' wavelengths and Dragon Tiger scanners are some of the best scanners from China if you can't afford Eye Magics or Cambridge.Have a look at Eightonlight/Lightspace and their Pluto II range too. Similar price as what this would cost without the DAC (slightly lower possibly).
JCASTLD Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Norty THANK YOU for the feedback! Is the red of a high enough power to pop (especially when I mix to make yellow, amber or magenta etc.)?
norty303 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Not quite sure what you mean by 'pop' but it should be reasonably adequate. You can always use more red, but as its the most expensive colour, you frequently find this is underpowered from the 'ideal'.However, it is using 637nm red, so it should have a nice tight beam, and it's one of the more visible wavelengths out of the common ones. You may need to balance the colour in the software, to give you all of the shades you want, as you want them. I'm only familiar with thePangolin products I'm afraid, but I'm sure Moncha has some way of adjusting the colour balance. As you don't specify what you want to use it for, it's difficult to say if the projector is appropriate for your needs. If you have a lot of laser related queries, you are probably best off asking on photonlexicon forum, which is dedicated to lasers, and has a bigger US member base than here. However, you will probably get into variance related discussions there. Have you looked at X-Laser products? I believe they have an 'easy variance' process on place with their products.

Hi Norty thanks for the reply - - By "pop" I mean stand out in a room that is anywhere from 5k to 4k capacity for the most part. I do a lot of DJ/Electronic/EDM lighting so I want the projector to look good in that atmoshere (which may mean it is competing with strobes as well as Platinum Beam5Rs/Sharpies and Mac 2k or VL3000 type fixtures simultaneously as well as video walls. I have seen X-Laser and have used one before was not impressed for the insane price/cost (even if the variance is easy, what is the point)! I will check photolexicon, if any of you have more opinions that'd be helpful thanks :) !!!!
norty303 Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I've also responded to your thread on PL, but I'll respond in context here. No, the red will not pop in that size room. I have a Kvant 1W 637 red and that doesn't pop in 1500 size rooms. It is visible and ok, but it doesn't knock your socks off. I think you are either going to have to settle for what you can afford, or add a whole chunk to the budget. Also remember that doubling the output power doesn't double the brightness. And the price to double the power isn't just double the money. It gets very expensive very quickly to get small power gains.
