TomHoward Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I'm looking for some recommendations for small spot effect / pit monitor speakers. I have been using a set of four Control 1s for a few years, but following a frosty event on Friday, they've all got damp and the gaskets on all of them are shot. I've been looking at some of Thomann's offerings (link) - and wondering whether they are any better than Control 1s. Main gripe with the Control 1s is that they don't have proper speaker connectors or parallel/through connectors Active or passive, not bothered, as long as the active ones have proper balanced inputs.
smalljoshua Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I really like the L160s that dBTechnologies do. They're pretty pokey little boxes. Josh
revbobuk Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 For lots of poke in a small enclosure it's hard to beat the Galaxy Hotspot range
GR1 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 +1 for Galaxy Hotspot. I've used them lots of times and they have been just right for the job.
Doug Siddons Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Where can you get the hotspot from in the UK?
richard_cooper Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I've been looking at some of Thomann's offerings (link) - and wondering whether they are any better than Control 1s. I've got six of those Thomann boxes. They are extremely bright (but controllable), and get surprisingly loud for their size and price. They've got a speakon in/link plus screw terminals. The box includes a simple L bracket for wall mounting, but there is a better hinged bracket available for around £12. They are of a wooden construction, with an annoying white logo on the front, that I've gaffed over. Other than the logo the finish is a rather "pro" textured paint, that's fine when new but scratches more than a plastic cabinet. All in all I prefer them to the Control 1s for the price. I find the speakon connections make them so much more convenient in our quick moving venue.
