paulears Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Steve has indicated he'd like to have the topic re-opened, and I have obliged.
Sam Jelfs Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Filled it in, but what a load of stupid questions. I really wish universities would stop trying to train sound / lighting engineers. I know I'm late to the game on this one, but my response to this would be that I wish universities would spend more time in teaching research skills. The problem seems to be that a lot of these student surveys come from people on technical / engineering courses, with zero experience of research, let alone questionnaire constructions, quantitative / qualitative research, statistics etc etc.. there is a reason why Psych / SocPsy spend a lot of time teaching students on how to carry out this type of research, because its not easy... Obviously there is a limit to how much time an engineering course can spend on teaching students how to do research (Seems like you would have to start at the level of "this is a library, it has books in it." for some of these people), but I wonder if there is a way that students that want to do this style of dissertation could be paired with an interested psych / socpsy student who could use it as work for one of their modules. I think you would find the quality of the questionnaires, if not the actual research aims, would increase.
