shy-ted Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 HI Guys and Gals So I work at my local theatre and I’m sick of hearing excess background noise on cans. Not wanting to get into the ins and outs of restricting users and kindly requesting un necessary cans to be turned off etc as if I’m honest sick of doing it and nothing changes. So question is has any headsets been created that have mic noise cancelling within the unit for the industry that I am unaware of. Or if I was to purchase a high quality headset unit, I suppose pc gamers headsets are what I frequently see this tech advertised with. Would it be possible to convert these to work with my existing units (tec pro) and would they be worth it? I have not experienced these types of headsets so it’s just a thought, having no experience with this tech and what’s already available. From what I understand which isn’t much, I believe all headsets would need to be this type to make any difference to the amount of background noise that’s coming through but if this works that’s not un achievable. Many thanks
Stuart91 Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Noise-cancelling works very well on monotonous noises - e.g. engine noise in an aircraft, or aircon running in a venue. I'm not sure how well noise cancelling mics would cope with the unwanted noise that you are trying to eliminate. If the issue is bleed from the PA, this might be more difficult to cancel.
paulears Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Plenty of noise cancelling types available - mainly designed for industrial 2 way radio and aviation. There are two main types. The simplest uses noises cancelling mic elements, so the output from the headset mic is virtually zero from room sound, but has comms audio at the normal level. The Beyer DT 234 PRO comes to mind, but needs power for the mic, as does the Sennheiser's like the CC 515. Don't get confused with clever products like the active noise cancelling types - like the HMDC 26-600-B7, but these reduce the room sound into the cans, open mic noise from other sources being unaffected.
Brian Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Peltor all the way for comms in high noise areas.
Andrew Edwards Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Or you could get Canford's latest base station and packs which have the remote mic kill feature.
shy-ted Posted October 30, 2012 Author Posted October 30, 2012 Cheers for the responses guys as you have said everything is a bit industrial for what I was looking for, if im honest its more of an annoyance at bad habits of users then it been excessivly loud to warrent that sort of purchase. But cheers for the advice.
