Roderick
Have you tried the manual? Download from here:http://www.jands.com.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/26672/Event_Operating_Manual.pdf Page 20 will explain how to patch DMX channels. paulears
You've got a bit of a snag. The control is not setup to control moving lights, or multichannel fixtures. You can work them, but you need to put your moving lights on individual faders, one per attribute - so if your mad scans have pan/tilt/colour and gobo, then that's 4 channels per scanner. The control can record memories and chases, but that is about it. So you just need to produce yourself a list of the dimmer channels, and the DMX channels for the other kit and then set all the DMX channel numbers to match the faders you have. The manual is still on the Jands site, and will talk you through how to record things, but essentially you set up the looks on the faders, then place the result on a fader in the row closest to you. There are multiple pages available, so should work fine. The only problem is if your DMX channel list exceeds the number of faders - which it probably (hopefully) won't. I have the original book with the desk, do I need to power up every unit, to register these diferent lights, im thinking about controling the scanners by switching only and running on sound to light, I cant follow the registering on the dimmer packs I have which is 5 in total to run the par cans, like I said I have never programmed anything like this, are you saying I need to input the DMX codes on each unit in turn, I take it it doesnt automaticly see them and register on their own, thanks keith
paulears
You're using 'registering' in a way we don't understand. Each piece of kit has a DMX address. The control is usually patched to have a straight 1 to 1 output. So the top left fader is ch 1, set to talk to DMX address 001, the next fader becoming 2 - 002 and so on. So your dimmers are set to ch 001 (and if they are 6 channel packs - the next pack becomes 007) your scans might then be 13,14,15 and 16 for the first one, the second coming up on 17,18,19&20. You do this setting up once, and the everything is remembered. If you have 5 6 way dimmer packs, then you have used the first 30 DMX channels - the scans would then be set to start on channel 31. If you run short, you could set every scanner to start at 30, and they would all do exactly the same. It's just a case of jiggling the arrangement to fit the maximum number of controllable channels - 48. To confirm - you DO need to set the DMX address on each unit - but only once. Think of it a bit like setting the routing on a modern digital audio mixer.Fader number one can easily be set to input number 9. You just need to write down how you want the channels to be distributed - you have 48 controllable DMX channels coming out of the desk. You have 5 dimmer packs each one being able to be any DMX channel you need, same with the scans. If you can avoid just turning the scans on I would - because they take a while to run through a reset before they start to work. programming a few chases and effects into them won't be too hard - the manual explains how to do this. mac.calder
You don't need to change anything on the desk - in wide mode by default, an event 48 will control channels 1->48. Then all you need to do is make sure your fixtures are all listening on channels less than 48 (which are not in use by any other fixture) - so like paul said - If I am reading your post correctly you have 26 individual par cans - so that is channels 1-26. I quickly looked at a mad scan manual - if yours are the 611's they are 6 channels each - so address them as 27 and 33 respectively. Finally, check what sort of strobe you have - some are 1 channel, some are 2, 3 or 4 channels - so address them starting from 39. It will not be a fun task programming moving lights on an event - I find the desks clunky even when dealing with generics - I can only imagine the pain with movers.
