melkin Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Hey guys, What r people's experiences with hazers? We have always had 2 x Neutron STAR hazers that r buggered. They seem to only last about 2 years tops before dying. So essentially we're spending £1000 every 2 years on buying hazers and obviously want to try and reduce this. I've done a bit of research and looking at the SWEFOG Ultimates, Jem K1, Mvs & Unique 2.1... Obviously would live a cracked oil one - DF50 for example but only really got a £1000 budget. Our stage is 10 x 7 so if we can get a better hazer will only need 1 instead of 2. Does anyone have experience of these and what r they like for reliability/fluid consumption etc. Many thanks in advance for any responses
timsabre Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Have used Swefog and jem k1. Swefog ultimate is cracked oil... it's a nice machine, the quality and hang of the haze is really nice. K1 is probably overkill for your space, its blimmin enormous, good for outdoor stages or arenas. Both are slow drinkers on the fluid and have been reliable.
mark_s Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 One thing that I've found in a theatrical setting - and I might be completely on my own in thinking this - is that cracked oil haze doesn't give you the range of options that a water-based hazer does. They only really do fine, even haze. Which is great if that's what you want, but sometimes you might appreciate a thick, misty, cloudy haze which swirls in the breeze, and you aint going to get that from a DF-50! Don't get me wrong though, for most things I'd take a DF-50 any day. There's a reason why they're one of the most popular hazers currently touring in the concert world. In terms of actual units I'm a fan of the Unique2 - it does exactly what you ask of it - produce a decent haze with good hang time - and not often with complaint. They're also becoming rather ubiquitous in the hire market, which is probably a good sign of their long-term reliability and performance...
mac500 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Unique is always good. Also have a look at the tourbase hazers which are good as well and they come built into a flightcase.
GridGirl Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Moderation: Please don't post the same thing in two different forums - it just complicates matters because you get replies in both places. I've merged your two topics as you had answers in both. Anna (mods)
rossmck Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Unique is always good. Also have a look at the tourbase hazers which are good as well and they come built into a flightcase. The HazeBase Base Haser Pro is the same engine as a Unique II (and uses the same fluid) but built into a flightcase - mine's been fantastic :) Output wise it's pretty much identical to the Unique II
JDLX Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 I have found that Uniques are always useless in any venue that has a strong air conditioning system. The K1 is ok, but more expensive that the others you have listed and probably no better. I have always got pretty solid results with an MVS, providing you can put up with the annoying menu system!
landy Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Nothing but disappointment from the 2 Uniques I have. They seem to spend more time at the dealer being repaired than out on jobs.
MatSpencer Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 From what I've heard in the grapevine, Unique hazers are very thirsty. I've got an MVS and I had an issue with as soon as I took it out the box, Turned out to be a faulty part and Le Maitre sorted it out super quickly! MVS gets my (biased) vote!
