xrisrandall
So a quick question: Has anyone had any experiences they can share with 'cheap' DMX Switch packs like: This or This ? I am looking for something to run some Animation Wheels / Gobo rotators / mirror balls etc. So low load, but true switching is vital, as I've heard in the past that units like this used to still bleed some current when off. (...and to pre-empt the eventual chorus, I am in this case very much looking to buy cheap and possibly buy twice!) Cheers - Chris

Cheers - Chris You are probably best trying to source a relay pack.Neither make it clear if they are triac or relay switching! The YankieDoodleDJ one would be far better with 2 mains outlets per channel rather than the inputs they describe it as having...
greenalien
These people http://www.milinst.co.uk do a nice 8-channel DMX relay board - bare board for £59, or in a case with digital addressing for £89.
AHYoung
if you pay the carraige, you can have a anytronics 6ch 10a DMX switchpack . Its a 2u rackmounting piece of kit thats too good to go in a skip, but is just taking up space. PM me if interested
Richard CSL
There is always this from our German cyberstore. http://www.thomann.de/gb/american_dj_sp4led_vde_switch_pack.htm
revbobuk
There is always this from our German cyberstore. http://www.thomann.de/gb/american_dj_sp4led_vde_switch_pack.htm Pardon me for stating the obvious, but this is the one the OP mentioned in the very first post! And the description doesn't make it clear if these are in fact relay based.
Gerry
Buy a DMX controlled relay as Greenalien suggested.Either direct from Milsoft or from CPC.These are designed to do exactly what you want.Switchpacks might or might not do exactly what you require.I use on of the Milsoft products to switch on gobo rotators, bar bells, electric fans etc etc.CheersGerry
xrisrandall
Thanks for the responses everyone. The Milford kit is very interesting and is giving me something to ponder. It might not fit my exact usage needs now, but very good to know about a piece of kit like that! Cheers, - Chris
musht
Think the black box 4 way unit is probably relay, a number of them asround aimed at switching LED disco units, leakage on a dimmer would leave them glowing. The Thomann unit probably has schuko rather than IEC outlets. Have a QTX 12 way, that is definately relay and has been discussed before: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QTX-Light-DJ-Disco-RP12-12-Channel-DMX-relay-pack-5-Year-Warranty-/130714863941?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Lighting_Controllers_Dimmers&hash=item1e6f368945

david.elsbury
True, and the OP doesn't have a location in their profile, but I think it's fair to say they are likely in the UK, given the British nature of the forum, and Theatrelight products aren't widely represented or available in the UK :)David
dbuckley
And, as is ever so common, the TL uses electronics to control the load, not mechanical relays. bigclive asked the question about switch packs a while ago in this thread, which had some suggestions, including a box of unknown status, so Clive took the plunge, bought one, and he can no more resist a screwed together rack box that can I, and so it was opened up, see here. It seems the QTX Light RP12 12 Channel DMX relay pack is the real deal. If it is within the OP's budget. E2A - I've just noticed that the QTX was suggested above already; my reading skills must be failing me...
