Tregilibob Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I have trawled the net looking for 4 red 1960's(ish) telephones for Little Shop of Horrors.I have 2 746 telephones in beige and cream, and although I am willing to spray them red, I am very reluctant.Does any one know of or have 4 phones in this style, that I could hire?I have looked into buying retro phones, and at around £40 each, that eats up too much of the budget for something that we are not likely to use again. Thank you Tregi
Ynot Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I MAY have ONE red 746 knocking around my stores. I'll have a look next time I'm down this week. I will say that spraying phones is not the most practical method - the surface of the plastic doesn't really take paint very well, and can/does flake off very easily.
kerry davies Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 You will be hard pressed to find four red 706's or 746's and red 300's go for hundreds of quidses. Why not buy then resell later? FWIW the 746 was fairly late 60's and 706's were still used long after that. Don't spray them, they either melt or the paint comes straight off.
Owain Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Reds are quite sought-after - buying and reselling is probably the way to go. If you buy unconverted ones, convert them and test them and sell them as such, you may even make a profit. If press-button ones are acceptable, the Geemark "Direct Line" phones are very similar to Tele. 8782 and the wheels unscrew really easily from the base. They don't have a very good ring though, and are much lighter weight.
Superpants Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 When are you going to need them? I have four in my store of stuff, currently down in Sussex- but I'm not sure when I will be able to get them up this way (I'm near Daventry). IIRC 2 were originally red, the other two were sprayed. They were dismantled first, primed with a plastic primer and then sprayed with Halfords car paint. I have a ringer too, but I don't think it is currently serviceable.
Tregilibob Posted October 17, 2012 Author Posted October 17, 2012 I need them for December (show dates are 13-15th). We don't need them to ring (I think the sounds are in the band synth parts) and I don't think I have the skills to refurbish them.If they are possible to borrow, Superpants, please PM me to sort it out. Thank you Tregi
