Edlight
So.......... I need to light some dancers. Here is the spec. Six dancers standing directly behind a gauze that is being projected onto. Can not light from above as we do not see any of there features, can not light from the side as it will only catch the end dancer, can not light from the front as there is no space between gauze and dancers. So I want to light them from the floor, can not use MR16 Battens as these are two bulky so I am looking for a streamline light fixture... any ideas....... lxdave
Does that include short nose birdies?
Edlight
Its an idea but still could be a bit messy and clumbsy, looking for something really streamline and neat, bearing in mind that they will be seen through the gauze.
Bryson
Something like Chromastrip, perhaps? Pretty compact by the look of it and changes colour too!.

smeggie
if the positions are fixed, prehaps some tightly focussed profiles upstage of them?
strandgsx
what about LED tubes, I had a simmilar problem, and they are really quite good. I know there is the whole "they are for installation", but they are very bright, good colourchange and you can make one side dark by using gaffa. You can see them working on chauvets website www.chauvet.co.ukabstract and a few others make them as well. Puls they are cheap to hire.

Grahame
can not light from the side as it will only catch the end dancerHow much depth do you have behind the dancers? In situations like this I would have words with the choreographer and ask them to place the dancers so that they can be lit from the side, by staggering the line slightly; i.e. the end dancers are placed farther upstage than the middle ones. Edlight
Ok, Budget is quite tight. LED tubes sound like a possibility. will look into this today. Can not light them from upstage as this will not light there faces. Moving dancers is not a possibility. Guess we all neeed to keep thinking. Tom Baldwin
I'm a little unclear on the requirement: you want to light their faces so that it can be seen through the gauze, above the level of the projection? Surely toplight will produce more natural looking faces than lighting from underneath? What possibility do you have for placing mirrors on the floor (possibly angled very slightly towards the dancers) and projecting a narrow sheet of light down onto the mirror so that it reflects up onto the dancers - filling in the face lighting from below? Can you give us some more info on exactly how (in an ideal world) you'd like the dancers to be lit, and what the external constraints are
Guest lightnix
How about single tube, dimmable fluorescent fittings for some nice, soft, wide angle light? You'll need to mask them off the screen, of course and make sure they are protected against being stepped on / kicked, but they'll probably be a lot cheaper than LED fittings. If you can do this from both top and bottom, you might be able to get near perfect cover.
Doug kelly
You could try some Arri Mini Floods. Nice and small and can be fitted with bulbs up to 1kw (we have 800w, 500w and 300w). They have a bit of a barn door on them but you would need to blackwrap the sides to stop spill. Sorry cant find a direct link to a web page but try under http://www.arri.com/entry/products.htm then select lighting and mini floods
