tommynuker
Hi all Lookign for a decent dimmer pack, 6x 10A would do nicely :-) want it to be DMX though, no analogue please :-) anyone recommend what to go for??? thanks for any advice. cheers
peter
There has been a lot of discussion recently on the topic of the Behringer dimmer packs - a quick search using the search box above will provide you with the required information. Other than that, depending on what sort of outputs you require (hard wired, socapex, 15A, etc) will depend on the dimmer specified.
si_cole
Can't go far wrong with Zero88 Betapack 2's. They also provide the facility for + and -ve analogue just in case you need it. Betapack 2's have 6 channels of 2x15A sockets, or the Betapack 2+ has 6 channels of 1x15A and 6 channel local control (very handy for testing purposes). Think they retail in the £500 range, but you can pick up decent 2nd hand stuff. Si
peter
If you don't need the Analogue control, you could save a bit by going for Zero88 Rack 6's. I believe it lists slightly below the Beta2s. Alternatives from other manufacturers would be the Strand Act 6 digital (£490 list) or the ETC Smartpack (£696 list) All of the dimmers mentioned in my post come with only 1 x 15A on each output (10A rated channels), so if you need more than one output, budget for some grelcos. benweblight
I'd go for the behringer, I got one recently and have found it to be a great dimmer for the price, as you can set different dimming laws (including switching). shame that you cannot set separate separate DMX addresses though... you can wire it up without the expense of socapex , I did it with 2 bits of 7 core cable (I had to take part of the gland out to fit it)
tommynuker
Hi cheers for the advice, thinking wither the zero88 intsall 6 or the behringer. Would love to go for the zero88 chilli net range though but the boss seen the quotes, his motto is cheap and cheerful :) cheers
TallMike
I've heard the SoundLab DMX packs are a nice little unit... anyone agree?
Mush
I've heard the SoundLab DMX packs are a nice little unit... anyone agree?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Have a search here for "soundlab" and "showtec". See a lot of Strand Tempus and Zeo88 Beta packs run through Ebay, 36 ways of Strand Permus went through for £25 couple of weeks ago.
stevep
I've heard the SoundLab DMX packs are a nice little unit... anyone agree?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ive got a couple of the 4channel soundlab packs and use them for small pub style rigs - where portability and physical size is important - they seem robust enough and have certainly done me a good service - but do have a few snags - they're only 5amp/channel with a maximum load of 16amp.- They're also not too nice to mount in a box - they wont fit neatly into a 19"rack and you need access to three sides (one for power outlets, one for the rcd and one for the DMX address) so you cant really stack them. apart from that I think they're fine! of course with any bit of gear you get what you pay for - and at about 60 quid each thats pretty damn cheap! Stu
I've said it before and I'll say it again - check usedlighting.co.uk Iain has currently got some Showtec packs on the ebay bit of his site - 6x10A, DMX £190 or so. Brand new. Not bad dimmers, used them myself before but not for a while. Got faders on the front so you can set up a little rig if you've not got a need for a desk. 10outof10 has also got some 2nd hand Light Processor Paradims at the moment for about £190 inc vat as well. They are nice, could let you know some more info about them soonish as I'm currently sat in front of a few racks of them as we speak on the conference I'm currently working on... Anyway hope this helps. Too tired to add anything else.Good Luck,Stu
Bottle
Howdy Have been playing around with a LitePuter AX-415 for a year now. Great piece of budget kit (around £250). 4 + 12ch lighting controller, with built-in 4 x 5A dimmer pack, strobe fader, and 16ch DMX output for when you want more lighting.....muahahaha  Got mine supplied by a company in Holland, so was it was Euro spec'd with nasty Schuko sockets, but replaced it with a Bulgin panel (luckily all the internal connections are on terminals....) Seriously, have had it hooked up to my BetaPack 2 and six Madscans (via Raving Mad controller) - great for village halls and small-ish venues. Sound-to-light isn't too bad, Only cons, though, the dimming range on the faders suck, and the Master Level only works on the active page.....d'oh
