lxdave
Not sure if anyone can help me, but.... I have some Chroma Q scrollers with Par64 plates. I wondered if anyone can tell me if the plates will fit either: * Patt 243s (which I doupt)* Harmany Fresnels* Passo Fresnels (coemar)* Par56* Par64 (trick question :) ) Also, just to clarify, they are 3ch? Should the plates not fit the above, and I have to use the Par64s, are they suitable for back cloths? I only have four though.

No, one channel per scroller. Should the plates not fit the above, and I have to use the Par64s, are they suitable for back cloths? I only have four though.Unless the backcloth is very small and you can get a decent throw distance from the parcans, four of 'em aren't going to cut the mustard ... johnhuson
On the plates front you will be lucky if they fit any of the fittings that you describe, certainly won't fit 243's or PAR 56's. As for the fresnels, if a PAR 64 colour frame fits them your fine. If you really need them to fit the fixtures you describe, AC Lighting can supply a range of different plates for them, or you could get your own made at your local friendly engineering shop. DMX wise they only use 1 Channel, here's a link to the Instruction Manual for more info. Finally are they suitable for backdrops, I assume you mean are PAR64's suitable for lighting back drops, well that depends really on where your PAR's are placed, how big the back drop is etc. You will struggle to get even coverage from PAR64's due to the beam they produce, though some frost will assist with this. As for the spread unless you can get them on a very advance bar and high enough so they don't wash the cast in front of the back drop it isn't going to work, particularly with only four fittings. Mr Steve
DMX wise they only use 1 Channel Oh I thought they were 3 because of the fan etc?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, just 1. For the scroll position.
lxdave
So how do you go about controlling the fan, is it automatic or switchable with the dips?
peter
Dave With respect, the information is included in the Chroma Q manual which John linked to above. Read it - its only 10 pages. If you have any more questions after that, then feel free to post them. Peter
lxdave
Thanks Peter, usually I would, but I don't have PDF yet and I need admin access to the network to install it.
TomLyall
I'm aware its off topic, but hopefully useful... If you need to view a PDF but don't have or can't have the viewer installed, goto google and search for the filename that you're wanting to look at, eg: "chroma-q_manual.pdf". Locate the actual file your looking for, and then click 'View as HTML' and you can see Googles HTML cache of the document, its not perfect but more often than not you can get the information you need. MarcT
So how do you go about controlling the fan, is it automatic or switchable with the dips?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Nope - on ChromaQ scrollers the fan is on all the time. I think its Rainbow scrollers which allow you to control the fan & scroll speed via DMX. Note that there are also two versions of the ChromaQ CQ1; the original Mk I analogue ones (which have rotary switches to set the DMX address), and the CQ1D digital ones (which have dip switches). The digital ones self calibrate at power up, the analogue ones have to be trimmed via a small screw, so that you reach the end of the scroll as the channel level reaches 100%. Hope that helps! Stu
* Harmany Fresnels - Cantata backplate Now if I remember correctly you'll have to take the front off the Harmony, or something very similar, to get the scroller plate to fit on as they have got that lovely moulded front which is too big/thick to get the scroller on... Can't remember the exact details, but I remembering having a nightmare last time I put a scroller onto any of the Harmony family. Stu
