wanted a job lot of par 16 birdies

Hi I run a not for profit illuminating art and historical organisation we create unusual events normally in underground spaces. I am desperate to get up to 40 x par 16 lights. been looking on ebay for months but nothing has come up.

I have been told the 12v are more brighter however I am happy to consider the normal mains ones. If they are 12v I would need some advice with how many to wire up to one adapter and at what power and where to buy. In a perfect world someone may have power supply to go with them.

I don't mind what condition they are as long as they work. I am based in Hitchin herts so can pick up within a 60 mile radius. Or will pay postage . We are on a tight budget so can only afford second hand ones as cheap as possible.

So guys anyone got a box of these in their garage let me know even if you dont have the full 40 odd will consider any amount . we are real desperate.

Thanks

Moderation: This post was put in lighting AND wanted - but as a reply was made in this section - the more detailed post from wanted has been merged here - so Jivemaster's reply was to a somewhat shorter post. I hope this still makes sense. Paul

We have some in our ex-hire lighting section if this helps -

Please ensure that having bought as cheaply as you want, you are competent to create a system as safe as you need.

Please consider concepts like LEDs and battery powered units as not all locations will have easily distributed mains.

Thanks guys for your replies

we want to light up some info on walls, we dont want the whole wall lit just the area so thought par 16 maybe the best bet as can add barn doors or even black out metal to make sure only area we want is lit.

was thinking of adding led gu10 bulbs to them.We need to keep the power low as the venues we use never have large power supplies.

Battery operated lighting will be no use not very powerful and wont last long enough for the amount of hours event is open and the amount of days.

I dont mind if they are ex hire as long as they work how many and how much?

You would be surprised at how much 40 led gu10 lamps draw (we learnt the hard way, turns out they draw much more than on the box! - or at least the cheap ones do). They also weren't bright enough to light display boards adequately.

We probably do actually have 40+ of them lying around in a box somewhere, not my call to sell them on though.

Hi Im not too sure what you mean Nick I dont recall approaching you at all, however we may of done if you are a lighting business at sometime . But just so you realise I was not asking for these items on this forum for nothing I was willing to pay for these par 16's.

We are not for profit and I work for for free on these projects and put my own money into them as I believe in what I do. I have achieved high numbers of people at the events and great press, but please remember the events are totally free for anyone to attend. Its a community event where everyone works for free . We only do them every other year as I financially could not afford to work full time for nothing every year. I am learning about lighting as I go along. I can wire up LEDs and use Elwire and other more artistic lighting . I have found these forums very useful for lighting events getting info on gobs etc. Please feel free to take a look at what I do here www.illuminievent.co.uk

Kind Regards

Jane

Depending on availability, either 12 volt MR16s or 240 volt GU10s could be used, but try to avoid a mixture.

The mains voltage lamps have the merit of simplicity as no transformers are needed, and the lampholders last the life of the fitting.

The lamps are often more expensive and usually have a shorter life compared to the 12 volt ones.

I have some spare replacement lamps, transformers, and lampholders, but no complete fittings.

PM if interested.
