Hi

Everyone I am needing a 30m Phono 16 way to jack loom. I could attempt to make one but my soldering skills are not cracking! It is to run sound from VCRs cassete recorders mini disk etc to my 01v96 at the other end of the room. Does anybody know of such a place which sells this kind of product to my spec or can achive the same thing? Or does anybody know of shop who will custom build such a thing?

Hope makes some kind of sense!

Hmm,

Sounds a strange product. In my expereince multicores like that are a maximum of 6M (maybe 10M).

Sounds to me like if you want to do that you could either buy an XLR one and convert it (and at the end of the day, XLR balanced is better to run long distances) otherwise as you suggest get a custom made one.

AC Lighting do a cable express if thats any help - but they may not be for audio.

Just making adaptors to change RCA to XLR will not balance the signal, and running unbalanced lines for long distances (certainly 30m) is not a wise idea in my opinion because there is a high chance of picking up interference.

Personally I would use DI boxes to balance the signal at the source, and send it down a regular mike snake. This means you can send it however long you want, and the snake may come in useful for other things too.

The output will not be balanced - but providing you convert properly, then the 30M length will be balanced, until you come to ach end.

This eliminates problems when running over power cables, florecent tubes etc.

I agree with youn on the DI box idea.

Once again, the only way to 'convert properly' is to balance the signal. Either DI boxes, or preamps. Or possibly, (amd this is out of my experience level now), because you have a digital console you could get something like an 8-channel analog to ADAT type convertor and then run digital to the console? Either way, convertors, not just adaptors.

Huh? It will be balanced, until you unbalance it again, which you *shouldn't* need to do because it will be going into a balanced input into the console.

If you are still looking for a snake you could try Thomann or CPC. I believe both do various lengths with various connectors on the ends including jack, phono and XLR.

They are nice and cheap but you might want something heavier duty than the cheapest ones, which are fine for interconnects but I don't know about running them all over a venue.
