durian
mono o/p from a gl2800 desk in to a mono bass I/p on a berringher pro x crossover I have two Bose panaray 8ohm bass speakers should I wire up mono in to crossover and split Y lead thing from mono o/p of Xover to L+R input of power amp (250w yamaha) feed each panaray with a L+R should I wire up mono o/p of xover to bridged mono I/p of amp and send to one panaray and loop to second panaray? thus making 4 ohms of bass speaker to 8 ohms of power amp. panaray has male and female loop thro connectors on the rear. (well I presume loop thro, I didnt honestly check) () bit messed up in my head with speaker ohms so advice is very welcome. advice help thankyou kind sir/madame/ yes dear I wont do it that way
Simon Lewis
Which Yamaha amp are you using?

No, not that one. Speaker impedance must always be the same or greater than the amp's output impedance.
Simon Lewis
If the Yamaha amp can drive 2 Ohm loads, then it's likely it will be OK bridged into a 4 Ohm load. However, performance figures for bridged operation usually quote higher distortion figures. Furthermore, not all amps will work happily bridged at 4 ohms (hence the reason for asking whch amp you were using). Using the amp in a non bridged mode would probably be better, at the expense of maximum possible output power. On most Yamaha amps you should be able to daisy chain the amps, or set them to parallel input, so you wouldn't need a Y lead.
durian
sorry for the delay in getting back, it doesn't matter for the time being, I discovered one of the subs is farting like an old labrador so for the time being we are going to keep the remaining one wired from the amp in bridged mode as it has been for sometime. the second sub was connected to another system in the same venue and I am trying to condense things a little. I have to investigate the possibility of repairs to the farts box thanks for the help.
