robm
Hi guys, Looking for some projection surface material which is a close match to the rear projection screens used by Da-lite for their fast fold screens. We've used various types over the years for our custom projector screens, but haven't yet found a supplier or make that is a really close match to the rubberised material Da-lite use. Ideally need to be able to fold it and for any creases to come out under tension. Everything we use usually leaves a permanent white mark on the fabric if it gets rucked, or creased. We end up rolling everything and being really careful during an install to make sure it doesn't get nicked. Got the current J&C catalogue here and looking at their options. Any thoughts or expereinces on the best surface to use. needs to be rear project. Many thanks

sleepytom
http://www.harkness-screens.com/rear-projection-surfaces.html Harkness make custom rear-pro screens using the same stuff they make fastfolds from. http://www.rosco.com/uk/screens/roscoscreen.cfm Rosco also supply a range of srceen surfaces. The main issue with rubberised fastfold type screens is getting enough tension into the fabric to pull the wrinkles out - I hate to say it but the classic fastfold frame with poppers design is extremely good and really hard to beat with any DIY technique. The popular conference technique for screens is to build set with an aperture slightly smaller than a standard fastfold size and then secure a fastfold in position on the rear of the set. This provides a quick setup and a quality wrinkle free projection surface.
