Headphone Amp

Hi everyone.

Can anyone recommend a [the cheapest, not fall apart quality] beltpack headphone amp to use when I finally get round to buying some IEMs next payday.

I'm a keyboard player so no need for wireless really!

Preferably with a locking input :-) - either 1/4" or XLR. And runs from AAs too, just 'cause they're cheaper!

Should I be really worried about not having a limiter on it...?

Other option is to get a little submixer and use that but I've got seriously limited space!

Cheers, Adam

Shure do a hard wired pack P6HW but it's a silly price for what it is. I think it may also have been discontinued.

The Fischer Amps packs are pretty good and sensibly priced.

Cheers,

Cheers Peter. I looked at that Shure but the price is a bit out of my price range! Just bought a Nord Stage2 ha! Those Fischer ones look great though. Same price as the canford things which always seem to last forever. Might even go for the one with the extra mic in...

But for that price I can get a half decent Yammy MG mixer or similar and looking at my setup, can stick it on a mic mount on my second keyboard stand...

I'll have a think!

I've got the Behringer one and its max volume is a bit limited for an on-stage gig situation. The ART boxes do better but are a bit more expensive. The ART mymonitor is a nice box for this situation because you can feed a band mix in as well as the keys and mix your own monitor mix (well only from 2 inputs, it's not an Aviom, but still works well)

Thanks guys. I've used some Behringer ones... The rack versions and the tiny one with 4 outs and they have seemed a bit weedy, but (I think) were driving some DT100s with a daft impedance. But don't mind spending a little more than 50 quid.

The ART and Fischer ones look good along with a mains powered Peavey one I found (HB2) I'll have something a fortnight hopefully and I'll let you know how I get on.

Cheers, Adam.

Gonna be getting thru some 9v cells unless I can get a decent length cable for the PSU I feel. I'm playing at least 4-6 hours most days...

Thanks Matt. Cheap enough to keep a spare, those Millenium ones! They actually look pretty solid too. Had a few Millenium DIs a few years back they sounded passable and admittedly were pennies but build quality was a bit iffy.

Wonder if there's a OEM version of that amp I can find here in Dubai... Shipping from Germany'll probs be as much as the unit! I'm assuming they're not native German!

What about thomann's own brand one? £30 with a 3 yr guarantee?

Used them on a recent musical with not very much money but big standards. Drove a variety of headphones and whilst not shure sounded more than acceptable. The lot I had were built well and the mic stand mount is kinda handy.

Yeah, I do have a spare mic mount on my second stand so an easy plus point for the Thomann one. Should look nice and neat. I think I'll order one when I'm back in the UK soon.

Used the Shure one just before new year on a gig and it was amazing. The mons engineer and mix was too, though! Simply out my price range doing a hotel gig :-(
