5v On DMX Line?

How is this working?

just shows you more about the sticks, apart from having the information wrong about how many transmitters / receivers you can have

 

But how are they back feeding this stick. I have just brought one to test (as I have the boxes

but not from this supplier) but they must be putting 5v back up the DMX???

I'd think they're using drivers with a high current drive, then putting a schottky bridge rectified across the DMX line. A current limiting resistor, smoothing cap and a low power radio device does the rest.

The description on Video 1 at about 5:05 says "Pulsed DC". The 75176 can withstand up to 12V on any bus terminal so it may be getting a squirt of DC after each frame is received. Notice that the LED doesn't come on immediately the interface is plugged in so there's probably some negotiation taking place using DMX frames with non-zero start codes. I suspect there's also a rechargeable battery involved too, hence the need for the DC connector.
