70V Line Speakers

Hey Guys

I have just purchased some speakers from offline and they come with a 70v line tap or 8ohm setting..... I would like to but three of these speakers on one side of an amplifier, now I understand that if I do that then I will drop the Ohm rating to just over 2.6. Do you think it would make any difference if I installed a 100v line transformer to put all the speakers on the same side of the amp? as these speakers say 70v line and im struggling to find a 70v line transformer

Many Thanks

70V is American, whereas the rest of the world uses 100V.

If the amp has 100V out then I would give that a go. If it hasn't and the amp is 4 ohm minimum then you have problems.

How powerful is the amp and the speakers?

Could you not connect two of the speakers in series and then the other one in parallel at the low impedence setting? Total resistance would be 5.333 ohm if my calculations are right? Or is that not possible with your wiring?

The problem with this arrangement is that one speaker will get four times the power of the other two, and therefore be 6dB louder. (If my maths/memory is correct)

Tap the 70V speakers at no more than half the speaker's maximum rating when feeding from 100V. The power reaching the speaker coil will be about right.

also remember that eg a 50 watt tapped 70V speaker will appear as 100 watt to the amp.

Although as dbuckley says, it'll probably work anyway, except at extremes.
