Laptop vs External (touch) Monitor with MagicQ

Hello All,

I've recently acquired a touchscreen monitor to use with MagicQ on PC (Windows XP SP3), I've got the touchscreen working correctly with windows - The external touch monitor is set to extended desktop and has the same resolution as the internal laptop screen.

I have loaded MagicQ onto the touch monitor and this works great. I would like to show windows such as Outputs/Cue-Stack on the internal laptop monitor, however if I push "ext" for these windows, they stay on the touch monitor, just overlaid onto the main interface?

I hope I've explained that clearly enough!

Any pointers greatly appreciated :)

Dave

I haven't got around to playing with multi-monitor support on MagicQ yet, but are you trying to run the software on both the laptop screen and your touchscreen at the same time? Have you told MagicQ that you've got two monitors? I think the option is somewhere in the system settings menu within MagicQ.

At this moment I use 3 monitors when typing this message.

What version do you use?

If I take the screen on my portable as main screen, two others are slave. I get when I go to display properties map settings push identify 1-2-3 on my screen

Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor .True.

Use screen 1 as primary monitor.

Click on setup button in chamsys, screen setup should be bright blue.

Push EXT button. Setup screen should go to screen 2.

If not your screen settings are wrong.

I can put every display on the 3 screens without any problem.

Hello,

Just been playing with this myself;

When looking at MagiQ ,try hitting <Setup> then select <view system> then <view monitors> then hit <Reload Multi W> to see if it detects a second monitor.

Also under <View Settings> select <Network> and in the list there, there should be an option <Multi Windows> change this to "MultiWindows (same PC)"

I think that might help you out.

Sam.

I have done this, and it detects both monitors (though I have no way of telling which is which?). I think I reloaded multiwindows a few times, and ended up being able to put windows onto the internal monitor, however It also mapped the touch interface to the internal screen also (which is obviously no use!)

Is there a way in MagicQ to determine which monitor is the touch one?

Hmm, so you've successfully laid out your magicq windows the way you'd like them?

Do you mean that the touchscreen is now moving the mouse pointer on your internal screen? And does it continue to do this after you've closed MagicQ?

If so then double check your touch screen is your primary monitor. Also Win7 has a handy Tablet PC Settings utility to let you re assert which screens are touch screens. I don't know if XP has one too?

As for a way to tell which is which, in my setup under <View System> and <View Monitors> I am presented with a table which says I have two monitors enables (and tells me their resolution) and tells me that the main monitor is 'Touch 1' in 'Normal' mode.

Any good?

Any good?

Many Thanks,

Using your ideas I have managed to sort it out I think!

Here's the summary in case anyone else comes across the same problem...

If I had the internal LCD set as Primary Monitor - the default, and MagicQ running on the external (touch) monitor, then the Ext button would assign windows to the touch monitor (on top of MagicQ).

If I set the external touch monitor as Primary Monitor, windows assigned to "ext" would appear (as expected) on the internal LCD monitor, however the touch interface then also controlled the internal LCD.

Solution:

* Set External Monitor as Primary Monitor (the internal monitor needs to be disabled, e.g. by fn key on laptop, before this can be done).

* Launch MagicQ on the external monitor (now primary with the desktop etc)

* Press "setup" > "view settings" > "view monitors" and press "Reload MultiW" several times until the dimensions look about right.

* Open the utility for your touchscreen monitor, and re-calibrate/re-align it, so that it is aligned with the correct monitor

Many Thanks for your help! - Programming should be a little quicker now!

Dave
