cfmonk
Only a matter of time until that happens here, from what I can see (ant this is obviously only from those photographs) that tent looks like it's made out of 2" tubular framework. Just NOT suitable for commercial applications but there are more and more people hiring these out as "marquees".
bigclive
The guy who died had a heart attack, which spoils their headline a bit. For me the greater issue is that the metal framed tent is surrounded on all sides by high voltage powerlines, both for the train and the distribution towers. kerry davies
Hmmm? 90 MPH winds and tents, any tents, inspected and passed for that wind speed? I don't think so! First off, the building commissioner who reckons tents can be certified for Cat 1 hurricanes is plainly bonkers. Secondly this year has seen around 650 tornados in the "Alley" with 63 deaths so far thus anyone putting up tents there without safety measures is plainly bonkers. (There was one in St Louis on the day before as well as the one on the day!)Thirdly Chris is right in that these tents are little more than garden gazebos, using them commercially is plainly bonkers.Fourthly, I see no pins! On Tarmac with no pinning? Oh sorry, you can't really securely pin this type of tent down so again, plainly bonkers. In the UK we work on a max wind speed of 25m/s or roughly 55 MPH before "special structures" comes into play. We have a 75% monitoring level and a 90% evac level of that maximum so anything above 40 MPH forecast needs constant monitoring and most reputable marquee manufacturers build to withstand 60 MPH yet this bunch claim 90 MPH is safe. When the UK last had a decent 80 MPH blow in 1987 we lost 15,000,000 trees.

Tezzachs
Would you like me to get your coat Bigclive? I had a similar experience in 2010, 100ft ali scaff marquee flipped over and landed in t,he middle of the road. Not funny in its self, but we had a woman pull up and ask the police who had closed the road for us to move so she could get to her house.
