berwyn
Id be interested how other people have approached using sound outside in site specific performances. The show im preparing for has no miking of performers, its just a matter of a few sound effects. Im thinking of using my mac, running q-lab, maybe an external battery such as hyperjuice and a battery powered speaker. Any suggestions, especially about the best battery powered speakers gratefully received. Berwyn
pritch
How big's the space? How many people in attendance?
berwyn
Its a clearing in the forest, around 80 people will be seated on a purpose built grandstand
gordontech
I couldn't tell you what I would do without being there Im afraid. Could you run a long power cable and run a quiet generator? Then your possibilities are massively increased.
TomHoward
Would you really need the external battery for the laptop? How long's the performance? If you can't get power then you could use a laptop for the SFX, then there are some battery powered speakers - SoundRanger and some of the LD Systems stuff is battery powered - alternatively (may be easier to find second hand if you have to buy some) a lot of the InterM 100V stuff (eg the PAM120 and others) will run off 24V for emergency power systems - a couple of car batteries would do that for you - then either some 8ohm speakers or 100V speakers - you could even go with IP rated for outdoors. Personally for 80-ish audience I'd probably get a 500W inverter and connect it to a car battery - either charge a decent leisure battery up each time or use a vehicle - then run a lightweight amp like a Samson Servo 240 and some 8" speakers - depends on what the power of the effects required is. Assuming you already have a car battery and all the other stuff the outlay should only be £50-60.
benweblight
Personally I would recommend the Fohnn Easy Port system (built-in battery) for flexibility; in multiples for a larger space.http://www.fohhn.com/index.php?id=20&L=
Mcdrewson
+1 for that :) Personally I would recommend the Fohnn Easy Port system (built-in battery) for flexibility; in multiples for a larger space.http://www.fohhn.com...x.php?id=20&L=
