trussmonkee
Hi has anyone used any of the DMXking artnet to DMX devices, just wondered if anyone had had any good or bad experiences of them? Thanks for reading Jim
david.elsbury
Sorry not the Artnet devices, but I have a couple of friends who have some of the USB-DMX devices and they are really happy with them. Been totally rock solid. HTHDavid
rossmck
I know people who've used the DMXking eDMX stuff (although I haven't personally) with no complaints. Personally my choice in budget Art-Net nodes is the ENTTEC ODE which I've never had any issues with.

Shez
MagicQ just squirts out normal Artnet so there's no reason why it shouldn't. (I know that's not the same as saying from experience that that particular combination works).
pjb304
MagicQ will only spit out artnet if you have paid for some of their hardware. If you are using the free version you are limited to USB dongles, and a restricted set of features, which are still very good, designed so that you can learn the software but if you want premium features you have to pay. pjb304
Ok I sit corrected. I thought that they had removed all network features from the free version but obviously not.
ceecrb1
If for chamsys.... there are some pathport nodes on ebay...They will accept artnet, pathport, shownet etc etc... I got 2 of them and made a 4 universe rack in a cheap thomann 2u case with patch etc... was really cheap and has been absolutely rock solid and they are remotely configurable via laptop from FOH etc. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brand-New-Pathport-DMX-Input-or-Output-Node-Strand-Shownet-ArtNet-ETC-Net2-/171217335788?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item27dd5935ec The only drawback is they need an external supply or POE injected... I fixed this buy building a POE switch into the rack.

mjriley
I use an eDMX1 with MagicQ regularly without issues. Usually I use it to give me a 2nd universe out along with a MagicDMX dongle.Never had any issues, works flawlessly.
light-man
I can't vouch for it personally, but I've noticed that Showtec are now offering an 8-way node. It's a little bit cheaper than the Artistic License offerings.

It's a little bit cheaper than the Artistic License offerings. It looks suspiciously like the 8 way nodes which have been mentioned on this forum several times.... for being crap. As per a lot of Showtec gear its most likely just a rebadge of something else, and whilst I don't remember what that thing is, I remember it's appearance. Certainly Elation do it. Cheap DMX nodes vary and on the whole they can be a false economy, cheaping out on it results in cheap performance. Which nobody wants. Hence why this thread is particularly about the DMX King ones, not about cheap nodes in general. I am also keen to see what the DMX Kings are like, I've heard scraps of positive reviews and the prices are very reasonable.

Yes I have had very serious lag issues while opping a show (with an extremely similar unit) that was to transmit live to all of europe via satelite..... specificaally a show with some elements synced to timecode.... Luckily I caught the issue during rehersals and convinced the client to just run the F&%$ing XLRs...... They were trying to do the "we're doing big shows now, look we use artnet" so about 1 1/2 universes of DMX channels were split over 7 universes...... entire issue was fixed by 3 XLRs and one DMX splitter... After that issue is when I bought/built my parthport node rack, which I have been very happy with.
