AKG D880S microphone.

They seem to be in the range of a SM58, maybe a little wider in the frequency range but not as sturdy. So don't use it as a hammer... A good allround mic. The "bargain" means Made in China? Or - if it's used - still made in Austria?

My attitude to mics is compare the price with the sound. All the big manufacturers have made some truly horrible sounding mics at some point, yet nobody actually seems to mind. Look at the flack AKG get for one particular mic, where it has the audio equivalent of saying Macbeth. People jump up and down, hang from the ceiling and profess the need to nail parts of themselves to the wall, before they'd ever use one - while somebody else always pops up to say, they like theirs.

For me, I'd buy mics that I can add to. So buying a 57 is safe. One of mine, and I don't know which, I bought when they first came out to replace the 545 - it cost me a week's wages. It works happily next to a brand new one, which is simply a tad brighter. If I buy Chinese mics for my own use, I buy a pair - because I understand they won't be available next year. Buying a mic that has been discontinued is the same - I'd personally buy 2. The reason being stereo recording. Lots of my work involves stereo, where identical mics are the way it is done.
