DoctorStar
Evening folks, The school I work at has two Betapack 3 (digital) and a Betapack 1 (analogue) and two early Alphapacks (analogue). At a recent show, controlled by a Jester 12/24, we had the two BP3 first in the DMX chain (Ch1-6 and 7-12). Then the DMX went to the Botex 72 Demux (start channel 13) which went to the BP1 via the first 8 Pin DIN lead. This works beautifully! The Demux has one of those D25 sockets with 4 x 8 pin dins off the back.We then controlled the two Alpha Packs daisy chained together with a small analogue desk. This also worked well as the alphas were only controlling specials around the rig.On Friday we are doing a concert and I was hoping that we could bring all the control under the Jester (albeit in wide mode and recording subs). In my mind Fader 1-6 will control the first BP3, Fader 7-12 will control second BP3, Faders 13-18 will control BP1 and 19-24 will control the two Alpha packs. So my question is: can I add the alpha packs to the demux by using the next 8 pin din off the back of the Demux? I am trying hard to understand how to DMX --> Analogue works beyond the first dimmer. Any guidance will be most welcome, Ian
pritch
This is one that you can answer in one word: Yes!
indyld
As you have already established that the DEMUX will run the right kind of analogue for your (Zero88 8 pin pinout), then yes you can use the next 8 pin analogue out. By daisy chaining the Alphas together as you did before and making sure they are set as 1-3 and 4 - 6, they will run 19 - 21 and 22 - 24. If you didn't do that and ran them from 2 DIN outs of the DEMUX, they may run at 19-21 and 25-27 or something less useful. Sounds like you are doing it right to me. DoctorStar
Thank you Pritch and Rob. Knowing that it should work, I will give it a go.....nothing worse than trying to wire up the impossible. BW Ian
PaulDF
I agree with what Indyld says, you'll probably find that the alpha packs will run on a different address if run on different plugs direct from the demux. If you look at it straight forwards i.e. if the start address was set to zero, the first plug from the demux would be 1-6, second 7-12, third 13-18, fourth 19-24. If you plug an alpha pack direct to the demux then it will occupy the first three channels of the plug i.e. if you plugged it into the first it would take 1-3, second 7-9 and so on.Linking the alpha packs as you already have on the analogue side will make the second pack make use of the other three channels (4-6, 10-12 etc). All altering the start address does is up he DMX address value of where you start, for example if you start at 13 the first plug from the demux will be outputting channels 13-18, second 19-24, third 25-30, fourth 30-36.hth Paul
