tbexon
most of them are clay paky sharpies not sure on cost but there a incredible light I've seen some really good uses of them (beonce at glastonbury for one) then there looks to be either some form of video walls behind her it also looks liek the back light which follows her isn't a follow spot as you'd expect but just a moving profile head with someone using it's pan and til to follow her (works very well actually)

Like a very big thick laser beam. or is that a trick with camera's? And what software would they use to programme such a show? Do the BBC buy these in or hire in per show? tbexon
these are questions I don't have the answer too. The green colour will be done from it's colour wheel not sure exactly whihc green it is. That beam is the thing that makes the sharpy so special. with regards to what they used to program it will have been some form of lighting control desk but not got a clue on the specific brand. again got no idea about the BBC
timsabre
The background looks like mirror dots with a fan blowing them (little circular mirrors hanging on pins) rather than anything technological like an LED screen. BBC normally hire in from Richard Martin Lighting. Sharpies seem to be the fixture of the moment for TV use, they pop up on every show.
indyld
Some of the best looks and movement are made by the reflective floor, a bit like that laser room thingy that crops up at PLASA. A few sources and a ton of mirrors make for some interesting beam interactions.
Pete McCrea
Sharpies are frickin obnoxious little buggers and quicker than a stabbed rat. Bright as you like - really not pleasant if you end up looking the wrong way down one. I know one particular lampy nearly set fire to the roof of a venue with one as the light output at close quarters does contain a lot of heat. MrBoomal
They have become very popular on tv. One of the reasons being that you can create a laser effect, but without any of the audience scanning worries. As Peter says, they are unbelievably quick. Cheers, I'll bear that in mind. I've got ten of them on my next tour.
Jamtastic3
Clay Paky Sharpies are one of these fixtures which look amazing but because of the tiny beam angle, you need to use a fair few of them. They used the shiny black floor well though to bounce the beams back up.
bigclive
Yeah, Sharpies are a staggering little light. Despite their relatively low lamp power, they punch out an incredibly tight (and HOT!) beam over an astonishing distance. They have a few gobos and fixed irises on their gobo wheel and a small colour palette but their main effect is the tight beam and fast movement. MrBoomal
And they are reassuringly expensive.
