kerry davies
You could try emailing the retailer who is, I think, still operating or if Haydn is still doing the Colour Sound Experiment he has good disco kit contacts. Edit; Retailer = Hoffmans in Germany, sorry.
lampielex
I know people who work with colour sound experiment, I beleive we have already asked them. I shall find out. There are people in europe that can get hold of the parts but first gig is thursday and we are shipping out on tuesday. Cheerz anyway,.
bigclive
Jeez! That's an oldie. Is the PCB really beyond repair? Or just beyond the abilities of the person who recently looked at it. If I was in the same situation as you I might be tempted to "hotwire" the fixture to make it light up and at the very least rotate the mirror section with the outer mirrors locked in place to create a usable effect. (Faking a better effect with modern movers if needed.) Bad way to learn, but always make sure that any props you utilise have backups, particularly if they are as vintage as that. AndrewGrant
Richard Martin Lighting have an excellent stock of old pieces like that. They lent my theatre loads of things like that for our Xmas party last year. Worth a try...... Andrew
lampielex
we already are touring with ALL of richard martins gear, and some from insite lighting/Siyan and IA.. Lots of old shizz. We do also have Alpha beams/GLPs ect ect... Luckily @Fulltimer my number is 07826840175 I will get hold of the TM and the LD asap and get back to you. Could you email awf.lighting@gmail.com with price ect ect and ill see what we can work out, maybe even hire if we do not have the budget to buy. and reguarding the PCB the person who is dealing with the gear is converting the fixture so it accepts DMX.. he is a clever guy, but I think a fresh pare of eyes would be a good idea. Jamtastic3
That is an utterly bonkers bit of kit. I love it. Centrepieces are one of those effects that look like a magnificent monster but artistically can be very limiting. Lampielex, you don't work with a well known UK band do you? I can't remember their name but they were on Graham Norton a while back this year and possibly Glastonbury or something similar, where they had 3 or 4 of those huge centrepieces behind the band doing their usual sound to light. It was good to see pieces of equipment like that, brought onto stage.
Jivemaster
Looking at the pictures above could you make your own! Seriously! Take a circle truss about a metre DIA, hang from it as many 250w disco scanners as you can and drop a mirror ball into the middle. Do some wiring harness work and you have an interesting total rebuild on the centrepiece. And then you can programme the sequences into a DMX controller even a disco chaser! Centrepieces are getting dated in effect and since they dropped out of the Griven catalog I expect spares will become hard to find til they are really exhausted. Can you get a complete replacement system of centrepieces by going down the disco scanner route? Or simply replace all the centrepieces with one set of scanner centrepieces with several switched personalities via DMX. An array of 150w discharge lamped waggly mirror lights should be able to do everything that a whole catalog full of centrepieces could do.
