Tow
How hot do Source 4 Juniors get with a 375W lamp in them? Not as hot as a 575w lamp. The advantage of the S4s is most of the heat goes out the back and with a low ceiling you get less complaints about the lamp heat. However, that is not a problem this time of year.B-) I have hung S4 jr 36s with 575w lamps just below a 10 foot suspended ceiling (office grid type), using 18" threading rod from the roof beams above. The ceiling tiles get hotter than I would like, but since they are fire proof it has not posed a problem and there is no sign of scorching on the tiles. Due to the low height we tend run the lamps no higher than 60%, there is no need for more. I originally looked into getting the 375w lamps, but could not find any in 220~240v. TomHoward
They're going to be dimmable on this track, so I might see if I can find a Strand Minim profile spot to put a 300W lamp in and see how hot it runs. The archive describes it as being suitable for track mounting and even direct ceiling mounting anyway (so it must have been suitable), and if it does run too hot it's possible I could fold up a longer yoke for it to drop it from the ceiling. It's a plasterboard ceiling so ideally I don't want to scorch or set fire to it.
Glyn Edwards
There was a whole load of minim 23s on ebay a couple of days ago, not sure when they were due to finish though. HTH
ramdram
Minim 23s do get quite hot...even with 300s and of course it depends on how hard/long you run them. For them as is interested: http://www.strandarchive.co.uk/lanterns/minimrange.html I suppose it would not be too difficult a job to cobble up some form of ally heat shield with a slight standoff from the ceiling...after all it would be more work to hang the track systems so whilst you are perched on the ladder, hop-up, (chair, table?) you could use ordinary wood screws, tightened by hand, into the plasterboard with a spacer to give an air gap. TomHoward
Interesting the original Minim describes direct ceiling mounting:http://www.strandarchive.co.uk/lanterns/minim.html There's also the heat on the track adaptor to worry about - I may be better off folding up a longer drop on the yoke for them if it's too close. I'll put together a test rig with a Par30 and a Minim (if I can get hold of one) to see if I can melt the track adaptor or scorch plasterboard with them.
