wchestnutt
Hello everyone, I was just wondering, if I had an obsession II 750 desk[/url] is it possible to use it effectively to control a concert setup (orbital stages etc) including movers and generics? I basically need the functionality of busking between scenes etc as you would expect. If so would someone care to shed some light?.. can scenes with looping head movements for example be assigned to one of the 48 subfaders? then combined with the heads shutters and colours etc assigned to different faders? OR is the desk only able to use the GO / STOP function to play through cues? Any Light on this matter would be much appreciated!! Kind regards, Will
Grum
Almost any desk CAN be used for busking it's just some require a bit more programming or a different approach to programming. Personally I would say that you'd be better off with a ask that was designed to be used for busking, it'll be quicker to program, easier to operate and you'll probably get better results first time. indyld
As Grum says, you can have a go at busking a show on pretty much any desk - the difference between them is the time it takes to achieve what you want in both programming and running terms. Any desk that supports Submasters (check), some form of palettey things (check) and has some live control over speeds of chases for example (check) could be said to be buskable. The Obsession like it's friends and relatives support Cue Only record, per channel activation and Groups/Presets/Whatever it is they call them. Does that mean I fancy programming and busking back to back bands in an Orbit over a weekend on the Obsession II, Strand Palette or on a 300/500 series? Nup. And that doesn't take into account the horror on any guest LD's face if you are dealing with such animals on this one. The main deal breaker for me is the moving light element - you can busk generics pretty successfully on any old thing that has a few faders. Dealing with multi-attribute fixtures in a busking situation is hard enough to make me think twice about doing on a desk that I find hard work, but I guess it depends what you want to get from your rig. If it's simply a few basic moves, some colour changes and some stock looks you can bash up, perhaps it'll do the job. To answer the question, yes the Obsession will give you most if not all of the functionality. Whether you can do what you want is another matter. HTH Edit: Forgot to add, yes, the 48 odd faders are submasters, as I recall.
