srp7
Hi We are currently looking for some new or used Martin Blackline S15+ subs to run with our F12+ tops. We are a guitar / vocal trio playing to bass / drum backing tracks doing small to medium sized pubs but are looking for a good solid sound with plenty of headroom. Our back line is miked into the PA. For amps we are considering a QSC 2502 or possibly a Crown MA3600 (on 4 ohm bridge) and daisy-chain the subs together to get a 4 ohm lead and therefore the best out of the amp. Does anyone have any views on this please and also the best amp for the job? By the way we are running the F12s with a QSC 1804 and would look to process the whole rig with a Martin M3+ controller. Many thanks in anticipation. Regards STEVE
fatfrog
Hi There,I've 4 Martin Audio S18's which I drive with an MC2 E45 which is ideal for the job - It's a fantastic amp which hasn't let me down yet. I would suggest an MC2 E25 for your S15's - One S15 per channel. Hope this helps Alan
srp7
HiThanks for the reply Alan - I am not familiar with this amp but will look into this. Hope this helps Alan Hi again Alan just had a look at the MC2 E25 specs and if you are saying one S15 per channel then according to the data thats only 700w a side (into 8 ohms) which I understood would be underpowered for these boxes?? I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Best, STEVE Hi There,I've 4 Martin Audio S18's which I drive with an MC2 E45 which is ideal for the job - It's a fantastic amp which hasn't let me down yet. fatfrog
Hi Again, The MC2 E25 delivers: 700W a Side @ 8Ohm1350W a Side @ 4Ohm Martin Audio recommend an Amplifier capable of delivering 650 to 1500w @4Ohms Clicky... As such I would deem it highly suitable Alan
likos
hello, I too have a paiR of S18+'s and a paiR of f10+'s and f12+'s. I was also tRying to find out how to dRive my system. I now have a paiR of qsc plx3102 and alab gRuppen fp3400.my plan was to use one qsc bRidged foR every sub and use the lab gRuppen foR the tops, to have high headRoom. Both aRe digital amps, class h foR the qsc and class D (td they say) the lab gRuppen. I was using this combination with ok Results, but once in a dubstep paRty I had plenty of time to play with and tRied using one qsc foR the tops and the labgRuppen to dRive both subs in paRallel, and the diffeRence was astonishing!although 2 QSCs have moRe watts then one labgRuupen, it was loudeR, more quick Repsonse, and better! So, 1st lesson leaRned, the watt companies wRite in theiR specs, dont tust them. tRust youR eaRs. One other time, in a beach paRty with poweR supplied fRom a gasoline generatoR, I had 1 lab gRuppen and one qsc and the qsc was failing all the time, due to low voltage oR ampeRs fRom the geneRatoR. different quality on theiR poweR supplies.the lab gruppen costs twice oR more than the qsc, but man, they aRe woRth it. You can find used ones also, and I would definetely trust them. Dont misundeRstand me, the QSCs are very good, but not as good as the lab. Another expensive but very good bRand is PoweRsoft, if u got the money, definately check them. concerning the m3+, I also have it, and I am sad to say that I am not satisfied with it. when I put it on the amp Rack, sometimes when it gets hot the cRossover fails, and one output is not woRking- maybe mine is faulty, I dont know. keep in mind that it is anlalog, and if you want to try diffeRent setups, you have to fiddle with tjumpeRs and stuff in the pcb. I'd Recommend you get a cheap digital one, the xilica bRand seems good. if u want to Run the subs in mono with a bRidged amp, keep in mind that you will have to give a mono sum signal from youR contRoller, the m3+ has, I use it a lot :P. Another thing I would suggest is use an amp capable of delivering double the wattage of the AES spec of the speakeR, so foR the f12, at least 700watts at 8 ohm. I use 1100 :) hope I helped and not confused you moRegiannis
srp7
Hi Giannis Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply - very good advice.I would love to go with Lab Gruppen amps but for the size of venues we are now doing, we cannot justify the expense. A friend of mine runs the largest PA company in Wales UK and will only use Labs for his EAW rigs - he has over a 100 of them!!!!!!! Thanks again for your help with this - I will let you know what we get - cheers mate STEVE hello, I too have a paiR of S18+'s and a paiR of f10+'s and f12+'s.
