Danny-Phoenix
Hi, Danny, welcome to the Blue Room! Might we ask why you need such a combination of characteristics? Thanks :-) and good question! It's simply because I love the look of the 414 but it's not really feasible toi use it as a stage mic that I can treat badly :-) How about a Sennheiser e606 That is one good looking microphone! looks very closer in spec to the sm58 to my untrained eye...how would you say this would compare. I should probably add, this is for vocals

Danny-Phoenix
What abouth the Shure Super 55 or the many copies of same that is also quite attractive, although I have seen it used quite a lot, I would prefer something that stands out a little more. so far I am very much liking the Sennheiser e606
MarkPAman
Well, as I had an SM58 & an e906 to hand I've just done a little test. I'm no singer, but........... On a stand I think the 906 is pretty good, but as soon as you touch it the handling noise is really quite bad - much more than the SM58. I can't really imagine the e606 will be any better. So unless you're going to use it untouched in a stand I don't think it will do the job. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(
revbobuk
How about the Shure SM7b? Sounds a lot like a 58, built in windshield, looks cool. Good for vocals.
paulears
If you want great looks, but presumably don't have phantom power - hence the request for the dynamic, how about a ribbon - there are some amazing looking ones around - I don't know if the fig polar pattern will work for you or against you, but if you want style - have a look at some of the housings! jameskerr87
How about a vintage look from Shure themselves, they have a few. Shure Super 55 Special edition
intyra
LCD Soundsystem's lead singer uses a Sennheiser MD409, which is now discontinued - it does, however, bear some similarities to the e606 and e906. If you look at their performances ( ) there's very little audible handling noise issues. Could be that the MD409 is superior to its Evolution series counterparts in that respect, however - I'm not sure.
Matt Riley
+1 for the SM7. A favourite secret weapon for my studio dwelling friends!
