Jem ZR22 Smoke Blockage?

Hi There

I have a Jem ZR22 smoke machine, which is heavily used.

Suddenly the output has deamatially reduced to nothing mare than a cigaret puff. I've had a similar issue in the past on other machines where the pump had gone, replacing the pump solved them.

I have stripped down the machine this morning but the pumps both work healthily when disconnected from the high pressure side.

Both metal high pressure pipes vanish in to the heater unit which is still getting very hot, I'm not sure what else happened in this part, the problem seems to be a blockage in the output section but I can't see how this could have happened all of a sudden if it were a traditional blockage, is there a valve or something which may have failed within the heater or is it just a case of trying to clean the pipes?

Any advice appreciated.

There are no valves in the heater block, and each pipe goes through a separate chamber in the block so if both have stopped it's unlikely to be a blockage in there. (Unless something unsavoury has been pumped through it).

Could there be some blockage between the fluid bottle and the pumps? When you say "the pumps work healthily" are they squirting out lots of fluid?

It all sound feasible, when the high pressure side is disconnected, the pumps squirt about 3 foot in the air.

I have just tried to blog air through the heat block and very very little actually makes it to the pump end and certainly there is no pressure there. I will try send some distilled water/ vinegar through and see if I can clear it.

Thanks for the response

Does sound like a blockage in the heater block, strange though that both outputs should become blocked at once.

What I suspect is that the fluid from maplins someone has just admitted to putting in it has well and truly bunged it up.

Spoke with martin and the heater is no longer available.

I have tried cleaning it with distilled water and vinegar but a no go. I thought I had sorted it as I powered up the pumps with the system cold and one of the pipes was running quite free but when I heated it up it became blocked again :-(

Oh dear. Though if you have succeeded in clearing one of the pipes once, a few more attempts might get you there

On occasions I had to unblock the end nozzle from where the smoke comes out.. The best thing I used to do it with was a paperclip which I partially unfolded and inserted down the end. You jiggle it around for a few minutes (with the machine off of course) and then fire it back up again. Sometimes it did the trick, sometimes it didn't.
