Basic 3K Band PA

Afternoon all.

I'm working on a project for a customer who has requested a 3K PA system for use in their venue for visiting bands to perform.

The bands will be mostly indy / rock.

I have most aspects of the equipment covered, just need recommendations on the FOH PA, and as always budget is tight. I probably have in the region of 1.5K.

If anyone has any recommendations on the way to go, it would be appreciated.

Cheers

How does he know he needs 3k of (I assume) amp power?

3K powering driving speaker brand 'A' will get you to 120db - 3k powering brand 'B' will get you 145+db.

The power is (almost) irrelevant as it's the speaker efficiency that really counts.

In short, what level does he want to achieve and how big is the space.

Not jumping on you but the whole 'how many 'K' thing really bugs me, it seems to be a DJ thing mainly but you'd be suprised how many people who should know better think more power automatically means more db's.

To explain to them in everyday terms I use the example of American cars - They have HUGE engines but go really slow compared to an F1 car that has an engine 1/4 the size. Both have similar power but the smaller engined and lighter race car makes more efficient use of it and is therefore quicker.

number of people and area/layout of room would be more useful for people to give a recommendation

edit:and just noticeing your location- what venue is it?

I'd also suggest that a 3K system isn't that much good if he wants 'real' rock.

again assuming the "k" thing is wattage, rather than currency, 3k of amplifier power could be more than adequate for 'real' rock in a small venue. 2 stacks of C7 and a pair of B2s totals 3,200w... could be just the job.

+100 on what noiseman said, people using wattage to spec system requirements is also one of my pet hates.
