Zero 88 Demux problems

Hello

Will try calling Zero 88 in the morning but thought it worth asking in case anyone has seen this before, I have one of the old dark grey Zero 88 Demux 48's, I had some issues with it earlier which meant that I had to remove one of the chips or the whole unit didn't work. Now however I have an odd issue in that whenever I put up and channels (whether in the range of the demux or not) the channels controlled via the demux give a strange flicker. With certain channels which are controlled by the demux I can get a whole rack to constantly flicker when a channel is set to 30%.

Hard to explain but has anyone seen anything similar?

Richard

Both of ours developed a similar fault, like its own private disco. The display used to flicker too.

We had to run half a Panto with workers on boxing day that year...the cast were fantastic and the audience loved it.

We decided to swap them out in the end as it worked out cheaper to replace them and have one spare.

We have Showtec/Botex 72ch now. Have been running these for nearly 5 years now.

Not much else to go wrong with Demux 48's except the battery puts on a fur jacket and if left can corrode the main PCB - depending on how far this spreads it could still be feasible to repair tracks. Otherwise it's dry joints on the PCB's - sometimes around the connectors. If you've been really naughty with it (or someone else has and not admitted it!) the other common problem is to destroy the drive Op-amps on the neg output card (if one is fitted) by connecting a rack that supplies a positive desk voltage.

Personally, I wouldnt be quick to start buying Botex ME72's until you've had a decent Zero Repair Tech look at it...

*casually looks left at his own profile and up and Jon Hole*

as they Demux 48 is as sturdy as the proverbial brick privvy!
