pumphouse
Whilst accepting that there is no 'standard' in the uk, and both 15A and 16A outlets are now used for dimmed supplies (and 13A and 16A for hard power) in lighting installations, can any of our Middle-East based (or other similarly knowlegeable persons) say what connectors are commonly used in Dubai for such functions? If there is a 'standard' or regulation that dictates this over there that would also be useful to know. Thanks, Jason

A few Camlocks still floating around but I saw mainly Powerlocks and the same three phase ceeforms which we use. They tail in quite a lot, nothing different to the UK though. Three phase is probably more up to date than UK, from what I remember I only saw brown, black, grey....no red, yellow, blue. Voltage is 230/240. pumphouse
Thanks for the response. I'm more specifically after info on the outlets used on LX bars for connecting lanterns in to - was this the same mix of 15A/16A or some other common standard? Jason Only 16A or 32A that I can remember. There was a case when we were in a theatre down in Abu Dhabi where they didn't have plugs for their newly bought 5K fresnels. They just twistedthe bare ends together and then taped. As a leaving present we bought them 32A plugs as a joke.
sleepytom
This is the Dubai standard for plugging in any electrical device... http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/23542_341899279872_651339872_3466381_6756029_n.jpg
pumphouse
We'll just specify leaving the wires hanging out of the bar then, so the lantern tails can be twisted on. We'll ask for sticky tape to be supplied as an optional extra, except for the ultra high-class spaces where terminal block should be fitted. That would seem to meet the standard. Smiffy
What Venue are you going into? They vary. Mostly 16A 1Ph CEE Most good rental companies have everything on 16A Ceeforms. Cheers Smiffy
pumphouse
We're specifying a new one! If 16A is more common then we'll spec that. Thanks for the info.
Smiffy
If you are speccing a new venue, then 16A Cee would be your friend. Are we talking Theatre's here? If so, then for the love of god please include Ethernet connections for Data, Powerlock outlet for visiting Racks, and so on. If your client argues about the costs, point out the long term savings and the attraction to clients given the need for reduced challenges to the rental companies. In my 10 years in Dubai, I occasionally added 10K to 20K (Dirhams) to a quote on the basis that the venue was a pain in the arse to deal with / work in Cheers Smiffy
