techie_101
Hi guys I'm currently studying and training to be a lighting and sound technician (more lighting though). Are there any books out there on lighting (and sound) that I should look into getting that will help me with assignments and for future knowledge? also if poss, could you supply links for where I can buy these from. Many thanks
Ynot
Hmmm... ther are a few books that have indeed been recommended here on the Blue Room. However, if you're studyong the art of lighting and sound design at college, surely there is a college reading list given to you by your tutors....???? Or am I behind the times these days...?? kerry davies
Alex, click on Wiki, up there above "technical" so the mods can close this down. Loadsabooks up there and if you can't find the right ones, do a search for books or lighting books and you will find the subject covered in full.Welcome to BR. bruce
A list of suggested books is HERE There are also links to Amazon - if you purchase via these links, the Blue Room receives a small "finder's fee" which goes towards our operating costs. The amount you pay is unchanged.

paulears
If you are doing a course at college - the spec has a reading list for each unit at the back. Just ask your teacher for it!

tommulliner
As this thread is already open, I shall post here and recommend the 'Stage Lighting Handbook - Francis Reid'. It is a really good read for beginners and gives quite a lot of useful, in depth information about simple, and more advanced things. Covers most if not all areas of stage lighting from rigging, to lighting design, to CAD. Was extremely useful for me starting out, so would highly recommend it. HTH, All the best, Tom. daveswan
+1 for Francis Reid Also just about anything by Pilbrow will be worth a look, books by both authors were enormously helpful when I started learning to light (I'm still learning!)
