jexjexjex
Hi Troops As usual, I'm at the back end of technology and I'm on the hunt for a few small (500W) fresnels to add into my stock. In the bad old days the obvious suspects would be Strand or Selecon or even CCT, but like everyone else, I'm on a tighter budget than before. Whilst I'd love to order up a dozen of these lovely new ETC Source4 fresnels, the bank balance aint gonna let it happen! So before I start trawling through loads of web sites and downloading data sheets, does anyone have any experience, recommendations or even disaster-cases of some of the lesser known or budget brands? Thanks
Chiefy
Hi there, You could take a look at the Teclumen Forma fresnels. We sell quite a lot of these little fellows and get great feed back. Please take a look at the link below for further info. If you would like a quote then please either PM me or contact your local SE rep. Ashley R
I Picked up about a year ago a large lot of CCT Minuette's and Selecon Acclaim Fresnel's and PC's off an eBay auction for really cheap, I think they were about $80ea, compared to the new price of $300. The overall condition was pretty good, with only light scuff marks, and some of the paint above the lamp flaking off, just had to buy lamps and I had a decent stock of 650w Fresnel's on the cheap! Maybe have a look at used?
TomHoward
We use the Selecon Acclaim fresnels, they are not bad (other than a sticky door when it comes to changing the lamp), but they are not the absolute budget end of the market. Lighting Partners do a budget Minuette lookalike for £60+VAT a piece but I've not used them personally.
Paul Turner
The Spotlight Combi range is good value, and well built, with a lead screw focus (no lamp judder when focusing) and good ventilation for use at steep angles. more info on the fixture can be found here Spotlights websiteOne nice option on these is you can have them pole operated for schools/ theatres with access issues. if you would like a quote, please drop me line off forum Many thanks Paul
Brian
One nice option on these is you can have them pole operated for schools/ theatres with access issues. As someone who comes from a TV background I've often wondered why more manufacturers don't do this.
rossmck
Another vote to look at the Spotlight range .. that said I've got a load of Selecon Acclaims and I quite like them but the focus on the Spotlight is definitely nicer. Also worth considering looking at used lanterns, but stay away from used Quartets - they have very sticky focus screws at the best of times and it's rather easy to pop the lamps in them. csg
another vote for the spotlight range - really good fresnels, great barndoors, good lead-screw focusing personally, I cant stand selecon fresnels, especially the acclaims - far to much scatter and not enough punch. If you want proper fresnels, the best is arri.
lxtechman
Normally a load of CCT Minuettes On Ebay in various states and sometime so so cheap. Quartet's Go For A Fourtune on there normally. And Minim F's (one of my favourite small Lanterns) Come up very rarely these days and price sometimes reflects this though other times I have come off there with some almost new looking and working minims. So I Favour Ebay. But these spotlight ones seem to be highly recommended on here and they will at least be new and parts easier.CheersLxtechman
GridGirl
Not sure how many you want, or if you're OK with second-hand - but another member here on the BR has some Quartet fresnels advertised for sale over in the Classified section...Quartets are not my favourite fresnel but they're not the worst units I've ever used either!
