TheLX1
Is there a way to make a .HED file for a fixture that isn't in the fixture library?
paulears
Um?....... Use the head editor, and you can build almost anything you like. It's often best to use an existing file and then edit it. With a bit of patience they work fine - or if it's something useful, drop Chamsys an email and they will make one for you if you give them the spec. Wol
Um?....... Use the head editor, and you can build almost anything you like. It's often best to use an existing file and then edit it. With a bit of patience they work fine Unlike other desks where you have to hack around in notepad to create new fixtures, MagicQ has an inbuilt editor to create heads. If you go into the Patch window, the various softbuttons along the top will let you get at the head editor. Making a new personality file from scratch is fairly simple. Setup the manufacturer / model, and the number of channels the fixture has in the main options window. Then goto the "view chans" mode, and enter the channel names, whether theyre HTP/LTP, 16bit/8bit, and then which encoder you want them to appear on as well as any locate values. You can then add channel ranges in the "view ranges" mode (e.g. channel 5 between 16 and 32 = shutter closed). Once youve setup the info, press the save head softbutton and you should be able to patch it like any other head. or if it's something useful, drop Chamsys an email and they will make one for you if you give them the spec. If you goto http://download.magicq.co.uk/personality_request and give us the DMX spec for the fixture, then we can have a look at making one for you which also follows our internal standards for creating fixture personalities. The MA 1 and MA 2 are very good for modding fixtures too :)

Especially for big things when I wrote the DL2 personality for the Avo Pearl. All the bestTimmeh

greenalien
If you goto http://download.magi...onality_request and give us the DMX spec for the fixture, then we can have a look at making one for you which also follows our internal standards for creating fixture personalities. Not only is Chamsys's service for creating new personalities pretty quick, using their free service also has the advantage that the new head personality is then included in all the future releases of their software, thus sharing it with all other users - on the other hand, if you spend time brewing your own, it may not exactly comply with Chamsys's standards, and nobody else gets to use it. csg
no, but sometimes your own profiles suit your operating style or your own fixtures better than the stock ones. I have re-written several hed files that correspond to fixtures in my stock to include detailed colour mix positions, detailed gobo positions etc which save you a good amount of time building pallets up when programming shows to "busk", so all in all I think it is well worth it learning to edit hed files yourself on chamsys. greenalien
sometimes your own profiles suit your operating style or your own fixtures better than the stock ones. Good point, especially when you have a fixture with non-standard removable gobos, for example. However, probably still better to get Chamsys to make the original profile, then edit it to your own requirements.
