Soundcraft Spirit 328 problem

Hi - the other evening when we powered up our Spirit 328 it was doing a most bizarre thing - basically all the front panel lights are flashing like it's having a fit. Loading different snapshots spositions the level sliders correctly, and presumably all the other settings are correct, and the mixer works, but it's a bit tricky and distracting to say the least. Anyone come across this problem before, and know whether it's easy to fix or whether it's "beyond economic repair", given the mixer is obsolete.

Interesting. I used to have a 328 which did the same thing, but whenever it had this 'fit' it fired white noise out of all the outputs. I sent mine back to Soundcraft suspecting it was a PSU issue (supplying unstable voltage). After replacing the PSU and giving it a full health check the service guys couldnt find anything wrong with it. It was then fine for a month or so before the same thing happening again. All I can recommend is that you re-install the firmware and ensure you have a stable mains voltage for the desk. Also, try resetting the desk to factory defaults.

Kind Regards,

Adam

Is it possible to update the firmware even the desk is not fully working? I mean isn´t it in somekind of fault mode when the digits are flashin´.

I had same problem in 324 Live and couldn´t make the update because the fault "was on".

Hard to say whether it's trying to notify of a fault or whether it's just cattled. To me it looks like the same sort of effect you get when one of the outputs of a multiplexed dispaly driver is sticking but that could just as easily be a hardware as software fault.

In case anyone was wondering - we found the fault.

Apparently, about six years ago, during a performance, someone spilt a G+T over the desk. It had got inside. When the guy at Soundcraft opened up the unit, one of the bords had a stick stain on it. He cleaned it off, and found that the trackwork had corroded under the sticky mess. So once hat was repaired with fine wire it was fine.
