paulears Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I'm not too good at going to shows as a member of the audience but my wife wanted to see Ghost, so I went. I stopped looking at the show equipment a long time ago, spotting a Mac this, or vari* that not being of interest but what I saw before the houselights went out mad me think. Foh booms and circle bar had all the source 4s top hatted. Didn't work out why fill later. The LD deserves a medal for the work on this one. My wife expected some scenes from the movie to be missing because how would you do the scene inside an underground train? Rather well was the answer. The set was a three wall led lattice that could move, change shape and the rear wall open by slide doors and track upstage and down. The rear wall was left open lattice so you could bring the screen downstage and then use it like gauze and light behind it - neat. The magic was quite excellently done and was very like the movie. I won't spoil it but dr pepper was available in the bar but implementation was quite transparent and clever. I doubt many people saw how it was done. Travellators across the stage brought many scenic items and cast on and off, and coupled with on the spot walking and video projected rain enabled the street scenes from the movie to be reproduced. Anybody interested in clever staging should see this one. Hankies and sniffing were as loud as the clapping at the end!
rossmck Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 I was very impressed with this too, I did feel the LED wall was a little distracting in some places., Also think the layout of the 'apartment' set was very much dictated by the illusions, but it worked. The designer did admit in an interview that the key illusions were designed first and then the rest of the show worked backwards from that point to some extent. The only illusion I couldn't quite work out was the door - I know the frame was key to it but it was very effectively done (if you have any suggestions please feel free to PM me so as not to spoil it for anyone else who many see it - but three of us have been unsuccessfully trying to get our head around it since we saw it :P) Also, I don't think I've ever been on the bright side of so many VLs ;)
