TomHoward
Afternoon all I wondered if anyone know if there was a common wiring for analogue strobe control. The strobe in question would be a Stairville PS1500 (el cheapo) - has DMX in, but also has an analogue 1/4" jack input for 'strobe controllers' - there seems to be a standard for these, but I can't find it? I assume it would give me control over intensity & rate. I did a search and found a topic about modifying a non-external control strobe via the 555 but nothing for this. Thanks
nickb12345
Some of the cheaper strobes I used a while ago just used the tip and sleeve and was fired by a low voltage pulse on the tip of the connector. The frequency of the pulse dictated the rate, while the voltage of the pulse controlled the intensity. Nick
TomHoward
So it looks like I might have to put a timer in there - I'll probably just buy a controller then. I had hoped it might have been just a couple of pots for each attribute.
sleah
I think it was Anytronics who had an external input as described that needed a pulse, but also a jack that could have a simple pot and switch arrangement to give external control of the internal clock.this was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy before DMX came along though ;)

swampman
Jack based strobe control: simple 9v battery positive to tip and a push button for a lightning flash (just under the 10v. but does it). Strobe effect: battery/PSU + a 555 timer circuit, but avoid the critical speed (10-15Hz ??) which interferes with brain waves. Use to build them to order for disco rigs (usually to replace the previous one - stolen, stolen, stolen!)
