edmonston
Has anyone got any past lighting designs of an Alice In Wonderland show that they wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks Edmonston
Aaron-Hill07
What would you benefit from by seeing a previous lighting design for Alice in Wonderland?
Ynot
OK. As Aaron has already intimated you will not get anything specific from the members here for several reasons. EVERY production will be different in so many ways from anything that has gone before (unless of course it's the same company reproducing the show elsewhere - but this is quite obviously NOT). Each venue - especially school venues - will have a widely differing range of kit available for use, so it would be pointless to try to mimic something else with what YOU have. Any serious LD who has designed lighting for their own version will likely be very guarded about giving up anything that makes theirs special or different. The key to lighting design is - as we've pointed out to literally dozens of youngsters - to look at YOUR project, talk to YOUR director and set designers and see what THEY need from you for THAT production. Then try to achieve that with what you have, or can beg/steal/borrow/hire. Ashley R
if you want something, I wouldn't mind sharing with you something I smashed together for a local schools version of AiW,nothing terribly pretty, but it did the job, Now seen/ worked on 4 different school interpretations of Alice/ Through the Looking Glass, all quite different, so not to sure how an existing LX design is going to help you. But shoot me a PM/ email me if you still want it (If I can find it)
David Lee
Sorry, bit grumpy this morning but it is you who will be taking the credit for the design so do your homework. There have been a good amount of threads about how to put a design together and they mainly suggest going through the script with a note book and the director to get a feeling for what you are trying to achieve I.e cold scene/ warm scene, any specials, can I do anything weird in the show or are we trying for a very straight bit of theatre. What budget and kit do I have available and how long do I have to rig and programme the show. Talk to the director/ designer, come up with ideas and put them through the reality checker to make sure they are possible then rethink it when you realise you don't have the budget or it is impossible to do in the time. Enjoy the art of designing something for yourself as you'll feel much better about it. Specific questions about how to achieve an effect you are after are much more welcome here and will get a better response.
LXbydesign
One gobo design I love for this type of show aka Alice or Charlie/Choc factory etc is the DHA stock gobo called 'hangover'. Its perfect!. Even better in a slow rotator. Why you grumpy Dave ? Too many late nights/early mornings at work ? hehe
