Manuel1975
Hi There, I noticed a midi option in the speclist of the MQ60 but cant find a midi port... Does anybody have an idea how they will get midi into the Desk? Network perhaps? But if its done trough software then all desks should get this option right? chris.easton93
Maybe something like this? Either made by Chamsys or a recommended 3rd party product? In fact Chamsys do make this product.
johnhuson
I suspect it'll be using the Chamsys MIDI/Timecode interface linked to above, same as you do with their other consoles.
tecky_man
I think from talking to Chris on the Chamsys stand at PLASA it will have MIDI ports on the desk when its released,I'm sure Chris did mention why the demo desk they had didn't but I'm sure he did say when its released properly it will have a MIDI port on. I'm sure one of the Chamsys guys will be along shortly to confirm this! It looked a great desk though, Great work Chamsys!
Manuel1975
Ok, Iets assume t will have a hardware midi port. Doesend the desk need to be next to the midi source? Never in my life did I see midi cables long enough to go from stage to the FOH...

niclights
And one of the more popular uses of MIDI is to add third-party 'wings' next to the console.

dbuckley
MIDI travels well. Take short MIDI lead, chop in two, add XLRs. Use mic cable in between. Cat5 works well too. I even have a MIDI stagebox...
tvi675
Although the released pictures don't show it, the final production version of the MQ60 desk will have a MIDI in and MIDI out port on the rear of it. Matt
paulears
I was well into MIDI when it first appeared and linking a DX7 to an FB01 really did mean don't exceed the midi limit, distance wise - and this was especially important when driving it with a cheap PC card which used the game controller port to generate and receive midi. Ten years later, things had become much better - and I too had the chopped MIDI cable with XLRs. Since then, I must admit to not really thinking about distance. I'm regularly sending MIDI down multis between rooms with no thought at all. You could have problems with vintage synths, but my M-Audio 8x8 interface doesn't really seem to be bothered at all?
