Martin Audio EMX1A Sense Inputs

Hi, I'd be grateful of advice about the use of the Martin Audio EMX1A System Controller (crossover). I intend for it to go in after my mixing desk to split out the signal between my main amps and speakers and to a new bass amp and sub bass speaker system. The guide shows how to do this with XLR inputs and outputs. But there is another set of inputs called 'Sense Inputs' which the guide shows coming FROM both sets of amps INTO the EMX1A which has confused me greatly!. I'd welcome any information about what these Sense inputs are for, if I need to do anything with them, and whether my intention for this device is sensible! The user guide can be found at: http://www.martin-audio.com/userguides/GUIDES/ENGLISH/EMX1A_EN.PDF

Thanks

Dave

Without having used this particular device, my guess would be that the "Sense Inputs" are to 'sense' the impedance of different speaker cable lengths, and then use this information adjust how hard the amp is driven to compensate for this.

The sense inputs run parallel to your speaker cables or more either in the speakon or from the binding posts and allow the controller to "sense" what the amp is delivering to the speakers for speaker protection and equalisation. However this controller will only work properly with the specified Martin Audio EM series speaker cabinets selectable by internal jumpers.

Thanks very much, all makes sense. Limiting functions hadn't been part of my plans. Do you think I can use it at all, just as a crossover? Cheers

I've made separate enquiries and been told that it will run without the limiter functionality by shorting the sense input terminals together.

Thanks for your help.
