SceneMaster
Hi, Not sure if this is the right part of the site to post this but it seemed the most appropriate, I’m sure moderators will tell me otherwise if not… I am going to be writing a letter to a local theatre asking if there is any casual work available… I was just wondering if anyone could give me any advice on what sort of things to put in the letter? They kind of offered me a casual job when I was on work experience but I needed to be 16 and as that was last summer and I am 16 in mid Feb this year I couldn’t really take them up on their offer but I showed at least they had opportunities for causal work for me and believe that I was competent enough to do casual work for them… Any comments and advice would be much appreiciated…
Tom
Write in sentences :D Seriously though, it sounds like you already have a very good in there. I would skip the letter and give who ever it was who "kind of offered" you work before a call. Remind them of your existence, that you are now old enough to work for them and that you are available. You can also update them on what you've been up to in the mean time. Good luck.
gareth
I'd agree with Tom. A letter is fine if you don't know anyone at the theatre - but seeing as you've already done work experience there and you know the chief LX personally, phoning or going in person is probably a better bet. Just have an up-to-date CV ready for them.
SceneMaster
Thanks guys I will do it the more personal way, via telephone... I just though a letter would look more professional...
Jivemaster
Having made the original contact, keep in touch especially now you have something to say. Telephone the person you know. Sending a letter puts you in the pile to be probably rejected by the office. However a written application in correct english may still be a necessity even if only as a formality.
