Ebay Followspots

I'm surprised (and slightly disappointed) that the ad doesn't claim that it's rare, and vintage, and would look fantastic in your front room once it has been chrome plated and converted to work with a 60W bulb. These magic words seem to drive up prices no end... This seller is missing a trick.

Ex Vari-Lite / VLPS / TP / Theatre Projects / Samuelsons / probably at least another 30 or so company names that I can't remember ...

... Color Arc.. The Yellow tape on the ballast gave it away, the flight case confirmed it.

Very, Very good follow spots. I'm surprised to see them for sale at such a low price. I would have hazarded a guess at at least a couple of thousand £ had somebody asked me what I thought the Color Arc was worth 2nd hand, Knowing the way that Penny used to look after her spollow fots down at TPL, I can be reasonably sure that while cosmetically they might be getting on a bit, they will be in reasonable nick for such an old unit.

Anyone know the veracity of the seller? Could they be nicked? I ask as the price suggests somebody selling the gear without really knowing what they have...

Cheers

I have bought a couple of items from this firm. As I understand it, it is a family run outfit that has been trading for some years now. They tend to have mostly ex TV company equipment and buy job lots direct from the TV studios.

They operate from a large unit and like to remain fairly anonymous to the general public, hence the blurb about appointments etc.

They were both helpful and friendly to me on both occaisions.

I would recommend them. HTH

I've got two of them in our stores - pensioned off some years ago.

We did look to have them repaired as there are some faults with ours, but they had asbestos in them, the removal of which made it not cost effective to maintain them.

If they are popular to anyone on the South Coast, I'm sure we could look at flogging them.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.!!

I remember taking these fresh out of their original boxes at TP in Vauxhall back in 1983. I even designed the flightcase these are in. Once lined up properly, they were really bright, and we used them on gigs like the Royal Tournament, Rod Stewart, Live Aid. Their weakness was the 'lens tube' cover (easily bent), and they sometimes often went out of alignment when being toured. You can tell Penny Marshall (TFA / TPS / VLPS / PRG )really looked after these, as they are in quite good nick. Paul Cook even designed a followspot sight, which used an optical feed from the 'lens tube', through a Patt23 lens, and a mirror to give you a red aiming dot right next to the colour change unit.

Aaah. Happy days.
