goboloco
I use a avo azure shadow 2004 in a club enviroment- and I love it. however- I was going to upgrade, and space is an issue, the azure has a small foot print which is important bacause my booth is full of controllers and lappys for lazers, mapping, haze and the like. I also am concerened that as my desk gets older, parts might be an issue That being said, they {avo)still got me parts no problem! the last batch of faders I replaced had 3 pins instead of 5 and came from a pearl or titan I suspect, but feel realy slick and smooth. Anyhoo......a nice compact desk with chunky faders like my azure{im a bit of a jockey and hang off the thing when were lifting) any recommendations? I plan to keep the azure as a back up, once it is replaced. I have learned the hard way that you never know when some idiot is going to spill a pint on your kit- and the thought of it happing at christmas time when everywhere else is closed fills me with dread.... thanks you for your time. Big Jay
Avo Pearl Tiger/Tiger Touch? Would seem the obvious upgrade as it were to your current control desk? J
goboloco
Avo Pearl Tiger/Tiger Touch? Would seem the obvious upgrade as it were to your current control desk? J foot print issues. I have no space. the d4 softwear suite looks cool though. I could just rig that to some controllers, as I hate doing things via keyboard shortcuts. I like "chunky" faders . Richard CSL
if you are using lappys for the lazer , why not go over to DMX control software on a lappy?? foot print issue solved. I am sure avo do a suitable software solution which would keep you familiar with the usability.
madorangepanda
Titan mobile? Gives you a similar sized surface to the shadow and runs with your laptop.
tom330122
I know it might be slightly in familiar however I'm having great success using a chamsys pc wing in a night club environment :) good for the foot print issue also.
ScottishCol
I have to say , if it were me, I'd kick out all the other rubbish from control and get a tigertouch to run everything from. Do it from one desk, forget the space issues.
goboloco
Am I the only one who burns our faderz ? I hang out if my azure some times . I like the way I can " jockey" the desk . I'm not sure Titan mobile has the tactile hands on feel that I'm used to .
dosxuk
Am I the only one who burns our faderz ? I hang out if my azure some times . I like the way I can " jockey" the desk . Sorry, but I really don't understand what you're saying. I think your posts are getting mangled by an auto-correct feature. I'm not sure Titan mobile has the tactile hands on feel that I'm used to . Titan Mobile has the same faders as the original Azure Shadows did. Personally I would go with a Tiger Touch, they're only slightly wider than an Azure, and about the same height. Could you post a picture of your booth so we can get an idea of the space restrictions? That said, why are you wanting to change desk anyway? It sounds like the Azure is suited to your space, and you like it, and if that's the case, why upgrade?
goboloco
sorry about my post errors. thumbs and iphone to blame. Why change . Well I want training on my avo desk, the azure is not supported as much now adays. I put a lot of work on a weekly basis into my show, and now I want some bit of certification, or at least I want to begin the process of gaining some kind of formal training. And if im to go to this effort, I might as well get as desk thats "current". "light jockey" ......... my desk is in the a dj box over looking the crowd. During the show we get right in to it.{the d.j's and I} I may be a tadd heavy handed on the faders, and this being the case a lappy would not stand a chance. I also like the idea of the old azure becoming a back up in case of the dreaded pint spill moment ........................ on new years eve. pearl expert................ oh mamma :) I now also have panic attacks about my weekly battle with the aircon& hazers.;) is this normal? I'm not sure why the laptop wouldn't stand a chance if you are heavy handed on the faders. Surely its the faders on the wing that would take the beating, not the laptop? Rather than thinking laptop, why not look at a small form factor PC and a tough touch screen (ELO?). Your only real interaction would be via wing or screen, and if you did use a keyboard it would be a cheap replacement (£4) if you did mash it to death. I use an Acer Revo mounted on the back of my ELO and a Chamsys PC wing, but you could do a similar thing with the Titan mobile, which I haven't used but seen on some gigs and it was pretty impressive, AND small footprint. goboloco
I use 3 projectors- through resolume- sony viao. the keys that I use for short cuts always take a bit of strain, the numbers wearing off em.track pad wears ect. anyway................the visuals are demanding enough on the lappy, and its a high end box. for me it would be better to leave them on their own system, not putting all my eggs in one basket so to speak. and b4 someone says buy and apple, I have one of them also. all lappys just wear out after a while I find, dust and what not . temp changes in buildings ect. anyway...the hell with it, pearl expert. I have to have one!!!! {room or no room}
norty303
I'm not sure how we got onto your visuals setup here, but I meant why not use a PC/Wing/Touchscreen combo dedicated for lights? I wasn't advocating using your existing laptop, although you probably could. I have used a single PC to run my Chamsys and Pangolin control with no problems whatsoever, but I choose to use dedicated machines for flexibility and redundancy. I can quickly move to one machine mid gig if I get a failure. Given that you can buy a new Revo and a decent 2nd hand ELO for ~£300 I personally think its a better option for gigging with, and slightly less desirable in the 'knickability' stakes too. goboloco
Knickibality is always going to be an issue . I was talking to a venue owner from up the country who had 2 c.d.j. Walk out the door about 6 months ago . After hearing that , I secured my avo with some cleverly Placed screws and brackets .Anyway thanks for all the replies . Plenty of opinions to digest .nice one .
mrboo
if you do go down the route of a computer you may want to put the computer away from any sound as I find in nightclubs the base levels of the sound system kills the computer over time. Keep with what you have does the job or go for a pearl tiger. Nightclubs dont need the top range desks unless your venue has a stage. program you desk well then lock it off is well better then a new desk. for nightclubs with dj booths I always sell people to buy showcad with the computer locked up in the amp room with you only giving the DJ a midi keyboard and touchscreen. and it locks off well so they can only play presets and it very easy to pickup/.
