TAG1960
I am running a Jazz Festival in a couple of months and for financial reasons we are changing from a D&B Q1 rig to an EV XLE rig. The event is in a marquee, so the array is ground stacked on a riser. I would welcome any comments or comparisons between the two as I am very familiar with D&B, but dont know the EV system at all. Thanks in advance Neil
tolley1466
Contact the guys at APR Audio, they stock a lot of EV speakers and know their way around them.
smalljoshua
I'll second the suggestion of contacting APR, they're great guys. I've heard their XLE as front fill for both XLD and XLC arrays. It's nice and balanced sounding and doesn't weigh much at all. I find it compares quite nicely to Q1 IMO (I haven't A/B'd them though). samallen14
I'll third APR!!! I've heard both but never A/B them. You wont be going wrong with the XLE. I've heard it a lot, the more box's the better and the throw is great. I have done orchestras with them and the detail was amazing. Its also really easy to rig :) Have fun
Rob_Beech
What is this "throw" stuff?
nb705
What is this "throw" stuff? It's how effectively the box can be hurled (akin to a cricket ball). Smaller, less awkward cabinets can be described as having greater throw. Although horn-loaded boxes have good throw because you can use them like a shotput :)
RobertKendall
Hmmm, so, let me get this right.. I'm a D&B man, so in my terms, a E6 is long throw? and B2 is..? A B2 must be short throw!!! (steel toe caps required!) :) Hmmm, so, let me get this right.. I'm a D&B man, so in my terms, a E6 is long throw? and B2 is..? A B2 must be short throw!!! Dave SA
E0 is the king of the short throw. As is the Epac V3, even comes with a good hand grip. Maybe the discus category? http://img06.beijing2008.cn/20080728/Img214485748.jpg :D

Bobbsy
I'm a big d&b fan and spec their stuff whenever possible. However, for the last 3 years or so I've worked a fair bit in a venue with an EV XLE install and have been very pleasantly surprised and very happy with the smooth, balanced neutral sound. I've not had to use them ground stacked but, that wrinkle aside, I think you should get on quite well. Still like my d&b though! Bob
